New Rules: Bill Maher has to stop telling conservatives when they can or cannot roll their eyes. - By Dennis E. Keizer - Last Friday HBO's Bill Maher gave us "his take" on why France is so good and America is so bad. One only needs to examine the transcript to see how much envy Mr. Bill has for France"

George Soros backed Media Matters Launches "Global Warming Spin Machine" in attempt to discredit skeptics! - In a further attempt to stifle any opposing view on climate change, the liberal media watchdog group Media Matters has launched "Global Warming: Misinformation Action Center" your comments...

Global Warming Deception - Part I : A thesis becomes political ideology - By Klaus Mueller, Epoch Times German Staff - Are carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions the cause of global warming? In Germany, a scientist may still perform critical analysis to prove or disprove this assumption, though time is probably running out. The desired results have already been determined. (05/31/07)

Hurricane Contest almost underway - By Scott Maxwell - We're going to use this blog to keep tabs on Taking Names" 2007 Forecasting Face-off" -- the contest where I'm pitting the hurricane predictions of famed forecaster William Gray against a monkey, a preschooler and a columnist. My basic contention is that this whole prediction thing is so hit-and-miss that even a monkey ... or columnist ... could do as well. Just check out last year's season where Gray's predictions were an Category 5 disaster. Anyway, I have a link to the original column with all the predictions -- from Gray, me, my monkey and my boy -- right here. And we'll keep tabs on it throughout the season, which starts tomorrow. TOPIC OF THE DAY: Global warming - Alarmist views are propaganda - Al Gore's documentary "An Inconvenient Truth" is more alarmist misinformation than truth. The debate concerning global warming is not over. Many of the world's leading scientists and climatologists say the film is frightening but false propaganda. Most climatologists reject the theory that higher carbon dioxide emissions cause heat buildup. Temperature actually changes before CO2 emissions rise, the exact opposite. (05/31/07)

ABC's Global Warming Piece Ignores Decades of Hysteria from NASA's James Hansen - By Noel Sheppard - ABC's Bill Blakemore wrote an article posted at the network's website Tuesday citing global warming alarmist and NASA scientist James Hansen as stating that the earth is at a tipping point "with dangerous consequences to the planet" (05/31/07)

NASA Chief Questions Urgency of Global Warming - NASA administrator Michael Griffin defends the space agency's programs, including plans for a permanent moon base and manned missions to Mars. He also says that while NASA studies climate change, the agency has no authorization to "take actions to affect climate change in either one way or another." (05/31/07)

Look closer at other side of global warming issue - You hear it everyday: "Humans are destroying the Earth! We need to offset our carbon emissions," etc., etc. I have a hard time believing humans are the only cause of this so-called climate change disaster. I'm not alone in my opinion, either. (05/31/07)

Global Warming Hysteria is a National Security Issue - By Gerd Schroeder - Recently in the news several retired US generals, came out in favor of using defense resources for fighting the effects of global warming. The news media only carried it for a day or so, but it raised some potent strategic issues that should be discussed. (05/31/07)

Global-warming debate needs dissenters - Times Colonist - Both points of view in the global warming debate have legitimate arguments. Yes, mankind is producing too much greenhouse gases and other pollutants and we have to stop. Also undisputed is the fact that the climate is changing and getting warmer. The argument is over the cause. (05/30/07)

Dam the Salmon - By SHIKHA DALMIA - Al Gore has been hectoring Americans to pare back their lifestyles to fight global warming. But if Mr. Gore wants us to rethink our priorities in the face of this mother of all environmental threats, surely he has convinced his fellow greens to rethink theirs, right? Wrong. If their opposition to the Klamath hydroelectric dams in the Pacific Northwest is any indication, the greens, it appears, are just as unwilling to sacrifice their pet causes as a Texas rancher is to sacrifice his pickup truck. If anything, the radicalization of the environmental movement is the bigger obstacle to addressing global warming than the allegedly gluttonous American way of life. (05/29/07)

A Challenge To Al Gore - Older folks sometimes snip about the younger generation and the litany of complaints is long and varied. But if all students are like Kristen Byrnes of Portland, Maine, the nation has nothing to worry about. Ms. Byrnes is a 15-year-old student at Portland High School and, when she is not running track and field, takes all honors classes, including Earth Science. Former Vice President Al Gore's film "A Convenient Truth" is being shown in many high school classes today. Apparently, Ms. Byrnes became upset at the sloppy science in the movie. So as a project for her Earth Science class, she created her own Web site and, well, very politely and scientifically, ripped the global-warming-caused-by-man theory to shreds. Her Web site looks at global warming "without financial and political bias." That should cause concern to global warming advocates right there. Plus, "It uses the most updated information provided by scientists and researchers and interjects common sense, an important component missing from the global warming debate." Using common sense against hysteria. Wonder if that will work? (05/29/07)

A global hysteria - By BEN-PETER TERPSTRA - TIME Magazine believes that former US vice-president Al Gore and "global warming" sermons are a great combination. That is why their environmental doctrines are so very bizarre, I guess. How bizarre? Try reading the magazine's "Global Warming Survival Guide" dated April 9, 2007, and the "51 Things You Can Do to Make a Difference". Rule 26: "Plant a bamboo fence", because it feels good? Unprecedented levels of idiocy aside, there's plenty to laugh about. (05/29/07)

Adventurer to swim at the North Pole to highlight global warming - By John Joseph - LONDON (Reuters) - A British adventurer is planning to highlight the effects of global warming by becoming the first person to swim at the North Pole and break his own record for the coldest swim. "I can't think of a better way to show that climate change is a reality than by swimming in a place that should be totally frozen over. I hope it will ... put pressure on the leaders of the G8 summit to cut carbon emissions dramatically," he said in a statement. (05/29/07)

FIRST GLOBAL WARMING LAWSUIT LAUNCHED AGAINST CANADA - 29/5/07 9:27AM - Media Release - For Immediate Release Attention News/Political/Climate Change Reporters and Assignment Editors: (Ottawa, Canada, May 29, 2007) Friends of the Earth Canada has launched a landmark lawsuit today against the Government of Canada for abandoning its international commitments under the Kyoto Protocol. Filed in Federal Court in Ottawa by Canada's foremost environmental law organization, Sierra Legal, the lawsuit alleges that the federal government is violating Canadian law by failing to meet its binding international commitments to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. India Rejects Global Warming Hysteria, Says Kyoto Hurts Economy, Worsens Poverty - By Noel Sheppard - As global warming alarmists in the media and on tour buses enflame hysteria concerning a nonexistent climate crisis, there is an inconvenient truth they routinely ignore: carbon dioxide emission reductions will hurt economies across the globe while worsening poverty. This seemingly immutable fact, which continually eludes the deluded such as soon-to-be-Dr. Al Gore and his band of not so merry sycophants, is understood by India which has up to this point refused to participate in any emissions requirements set forth by the United Nations. See? We told you...
"Rich countries should pay global warming bill": Oxfam - London: Barely 10 days before a crucial Group of Eight (G8) summit in Germany which is expected to discuss climate change as the core issue, aid agency Oxfam has said coping with the damages of global warming will cost $50 billion a year, and the rich nations who caused most of the pollution must pay most of the bill. The most annoying song you will ever hear!
Portland teens make a musical global warming plea - George et al. might be cool with a warmer planet, but Katie and Una aren't having it. In a musical plea tolerable because it comes from the mouths of babes (the young-in kind, not the hottie variety, though they are cute little gals), a Northwest band called Blübird urges U.S. leaders to address climate change. In "What If We Don't Want to Be Warm?", the teenage Blübirds sing:

Please don't melt our glaciers, please don't kill us all. Please don't destroy our atmosphere, the sun will kill us all. CHORUS: Global warming it's not just a prediction anymore. It's not just a prediction anymore -- it's true. Help!

Download their polar bear mask, or listen to the stripped-down rock-and-roll of "What if..." here:

No word on whether folks with the Bush administration have heard Blübird's song. Leaders here are continuing to fight language being proposed for a global-warming declaration to be presented at next month's Group of Eight summit. (05/28/07)

I Was On the Global Warming Gravy Train - By David Evans - I devoted six years to carbon accounting, building models for the Australian government to estimate carbon emissions from land use change and forestry. When I started that job in 1999 the evidence that carbon emissions caused global warming seemed pretty conclusive, but since then new evidence has weakened that case. I am now skeptical. (05/28/07)

Pelosi Holds Global Warming Talks as Late-May Snows Fall in U.S., Canada and England - By Noel Sheppard - Yes, folks, it's Memorial Day weekend, snow is still falling in parts of America, England, and Canada, and our House Speaker is traveling abroad to discuss the global warming crisis. You really can't make this stuff up! What's potentially more comical is that Nancy Pelosi probably doesn't get the joke, and the press will likely hide the delicious irony so as not to allow the citizenry to get distracted from all the climate change hysteria. Thankfully, the folks at NewsBusters are more than happy to share a little vaudeville with their readers to brighten up the holiday. (05/28/07)

Carbon offsets challenged as fix for global warming: Increasingly, people having trees planted to neutralize greenhouse gas - Associated Press - ALBANY, N.Y. // If you plant some trees, is it OK to drive an Escalade? The question isn't as silly as it sounds. People worried about global warming increasingly are trying to offset the carbon dioxide - the leading greenhouse gas - they spew into the atmosphere when they drive, fly or flick on a light. One idea popular with the eco-conscious is to have trees planted for them. You get to keep driving and flying, but those trees are supposed to suck in your trail of carbon. (05/28/07)

Reader questions global warming - Once again, the government is keeping us in a state of fear, the media is selling papers, lawyers are sharpening pencils, thousands of scientists and pseudo-scientists are raking in money, and Al Gore may win the biggest jackpot of all by becoming president, all as a result of totally erroneous theory. Antarctic ice is calving on one side, and getting thicker by 26 billion tonnes per year on the other. Antarctica has experienced unusually cold weather. Greenland's glaciers are recovering from the last warming period and have regained half of what they lost in the last 400 years. We had fewer storms last year than the year before, and I challenge anyone to prove that they were more severe. Temperatures in many parts of the U.S. (the most reliable source of historical temperatures) have risen slightly, and, in other parts, have fallen or stayed the same over the last 100 years. CO2 rose from 1940 to 1970 but global temperatures fell. (05/28/07)

From the JunkMan
Junk Science: Hot Air Study Melts Global Warming Theory - By Steven Milloy - Global warming alarmists may want to expedite their efforts to hamstring the global economy with greenhouse gas regulation. A new study touted as showing that we're not sufficiently panicky about manmade carbon dioxide emissions actually supports the exact opposite conclusion. "Warnings about global warming may not be dire enough, according to a climate study that describes a runaway-train acceleration of industrial carbon dioxide emissions," USA Today shrieked this week. (05/27/07)

The Great Global Warming Swindle - By S. Fred Singer - Al Gore's An Inconvenient Truth has met its match: a devastating documentary recently shown on British television, which has now been viewed by millions of people on the Internet. Despite its flamboyant title, The Great Global Warming Swindle is based on sound science and interviews with real climate scientists, including me. An Inconvenient Truth, on the other hand, is mostly an emotional presentation from a single politician.

Leadership on Global Warming - In their May 21 op-ed, "Lead or Step Aside, EPA," California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger and Connecticut Gov. Jodi Rell unfairly criticized the Environmental Protection Agency's alleged inaction on addressing the challenge of global climate change. Regrettably, their comments failed to recognize that the Bush administration has led America's unparalleled financial, international and domestic efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. The administration has invested more than $37 billion on climate change -- more than any other country's government has spent. (05/27/07)

Open your eyes to see who really is doing the swindling - Miranda Devine - After months of dithering, the ABC has announced it will broadcast, but not until July, the controversial British documentary The Great Global Warming Swindle, a science-backed rebuttal of Al Gore's An Inconvenient Truth. Dark conspiracy theories have ensued. Surely the national broadcaster would never air such a dangerous, subversive heresy unless forced to by a board stacked with execrable right wingers. "We're not into censorship," ABC science journalist Robyn Williams said while doing back-to-back interviews last week denouncing the program. But he advised the TV division not to buy it anyway. ABC director of television Kim Dalton wrote an article defending himself against charges that "our decision to show such a documentary is dangerous and damaging" because the debate on climate change "is over". He cited several ABC shows which embrace the concept of human-caused climate change as some sort of antidote to TGGWS. "And if it were available to us we would love to show Al Gore's film, An Inconvenient Truth". What's the bet Williams wouldn't be advising against that one. In one interview he likened TGGWS to "flaky stuff" such as Psychic Detectives. (05/27/07)

Solar plans at governor's mansion uneconomical - The plan of Silda Wall Spitzer (Times Union, May 2) to install solar energy in the governor's mansion illustrates why we are making little progress in achieving energy independence and reducing global warming. The plan is grossly uneconomical and does not provide an example likely to be followed by many others. The plan calls for spending $575,000 to save $26,000 per year in energy costs. If a homeowner were to take a home equity loan over 15 years (the time frame of the plan), annual interest alone would be about $42,000 and total payment including principal would be about $53,000, double the annual saving. (Amounts are based on rates quoted on the Citizens Bank Web site.) The difference between savings and real costs will, of course, be borne by the taxpayer. (05/27/07)

How to profit from global warming - A new index lets you make money from rising temperatures, but it's not the only way that you can climb on the green bandwagon. INVESTORS are being offered the chance to profit from climate change with the launch of an index that lets you bet on rising global temperatures. (05/27/07)

How to turn global warming into a tourist attraction - Celebrities are flocking to a small town in Greenland - helping to accelerate the very climate-change process they've come to witness. All of these visitors will, of course, help to accelerate the very global-warming process they have come to witness. But the residents of Ilulissat do not mind, because warming is good for business. US objects to G8 global warming declaration - WASHINGTON - The United States has raised new serious objections to a proposed global warming declaration prepared by Germany for next month's Group of Eight summit, The Washington Post reported yesterday. (05/27/07)

Global warming-hurricane link spurs controversy - Reuters - By Deborah Zabarenko, Environment Correspondent - WASHINGTON, May 27 (Reuters) - Climate scientists agree there have been a lot of strong hurricanes lately. They agree that warmer seas have given these storms some extra punch. But they disagree how much global warming is to blame. (05/27/07)

Man has no control over global warming - Will someone explain to me how anyone can believe that mankind can control the warmth or the coolness of this planet we call earth? (05/27/07)

Biofuels Force Food Prices Up as People Starve - [Opinion] Fidel Castro has already sounded an alarm - Njei Moses Timah (njemotim) - In March 2007 (just as he was recovering from multiple intestinal surgery) Fidel Castro started publishing a series of articles in Granma Newspaper under the caption "Reflections of President Fidel Castro." The most recurrent issue in most of those articles has been his vehement opposition to the idea of using food to produce fuel for use in automobiles and other machines. In what he referred to as "the internationalization of genocide," Castro argues that more than 3 billion vulnerable people in the developing countries will suffer from some sort of food crisis as "biofuel" industries compete for grain with poor hungry people. The Financial Times published an article on May 23 in which it predicted that retail food prices were heading for their biggest annual increase in 30 years. "Prices have soared as the expanding biofuels industry, climate change and the growing prosperity of nations such as India and China push up costs of farm commodities including wheat, corn, milk and oils. Food companies have started passing on these increases to consumers, but the prospect of sustained commodity price rises means the industry's profits could be hit as it is forced to absorb the higher costs itself," wrote the Financial Times. Al Gore to Jon Stewart: "Facts Play Less of a Role in the Way we Make Decisions" - By Noel Sheppard - The Global Warmingist-in-Chief was Jon Stewart's guest on "The Daily Show" Thursday evening. And, right out of the starting blocks, soon-to-be-Dr. Al Gore made a statement that marvelously epitomized his career: (05/26/07)

I Wonder How These Guys Plan to Stop "Global Warming Hysteria" As the Climate Continues To Visibly and Rapidly Decay - By Bruce Sterling - Stop the Al Gore and United Nations Climate of Fear Campaign! - n the wake of Al Gore's cross-country, jet-fuel burning campaign to scare the American people about the "grave danger" of man-made global warming, some on Capitol Hill are taking advantage of the climate of fear he and his buddies at the United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change have created. California Rep. Henry Waxman is proposing the "Safe Climate Act" which would enact an economically harmful "cap and trade" system. Under his plan, the federal government would place Draconian emissions restrictions on companies that emit carbon. There are also three other draft bills in the House that have similar economically harmful provisions. (05/26/07)

Earth is warming, but are we to blame? - A recent CBC story said eating red meat is a major contributor to global warming, because of the methane gas emitted when cows pass gas. One contributor to the program equated bovine flatulence with air pollution created by SUVs, and advocated a vegetarian diet for all earthlings. Only at the end of the program was it revealed the person was a vegan. I equate global-warming fanatics with the more extreme members of the anti-tobacco lobby - people who seem to enjoy bullying people who smoke. (05/26/07)

AFP News brief : US objects to G8 global warming declaration - The United States has raised new serious objections to a proposed global warming declaration prepared by Germany for next month's Group of Eight summit, a newspaper reported Saturday. Citing documents obtained by The Washington Post, the report said officials representing the administration of President George W. Bush rejected the idea of setting mandatory emissions targets as well as language calling for G8 nations to raise overall energy efficiencies by 20 percent by 2020. (05/26/07)

Anyone have a bridge for sale?
Filipino invention stops global warming - A Filipino invention may yet be the answer to stop global warming. Roberto V. Celis, 74, said it took him 14 years to develop his invention called "Hydrogasifier" using water as supplemental fuel for all kinds of internal combustion engines that use gasoline, diesel, natural gas, hybrid or bio-fuel, eliminating deadly pollutants from spreading into the atmosphere. "It utilizes the hot exhaust gases from the engine to dissociate water into hydrogen and oxygen gases that are immediately introduced into the combustion chamber to completely burn the fuel," Celis said in an exclusive interview with the Philippines News Agency in his shop in Marikina City. (05/26/07)

Drunk on ethanol - By Colin A. Carter/Henry I. Miller - From preschool to planning funerals, green is in. Very in. But green policies and decisions need to be based on more than a vague desire to save the planet. The principles of the natural sciences and economics must play an essential role -- a part of policymaking that often eludes politicians. (05/25/07)

Jessica Simpson a Global Warming Groupie: After Leonardo DiCaprio? - By Susan Hatch - Jessica Simpson like her men green. She is currently dating (or not) "light green" global warming advocate John Mayer and now she reportedly perused Leonardo DiCaprio, who debuted his advocacy film '11th Hour' at Cannes. Does global warming heat up Jessica? At an exclusive party on a private yacht in Cannes, Jessica Simpson reportedly "spent the whole night following Leonardo DiCaprio around like a lost puppy," a source tells Page Six. (05/25/07)

A session to forget - By John McClaughry - A very liberal Legislature balanced the budget, offered a desperate and embarrassing tax-grabbing spectacle to combat the alleged menace of global warming, did little to stem the rise in education costs and failed to do anything to improve the economic prospects of Vermonters. (05/25/07)

JENNIFER MAROHASY : Cooling heels on global warming - While some of the headlines announcing the release of its first summary in February suggested the end of the world was nigh, the report was actually fairly undramatic. It concluded the world has warmed by 0.74C over the past 100 years and that while temperatures at the Arctic have increased at almost twice the global average there has been no warming at all at the Antarctic. That's right. No global warming at the South Pole. Furthermore, while Al Gore predicted a six-metre rise in sea level in his documentary, An Inconvenient Truth , the inconvenient truth in the February summary from the IPCC was that sea levels are unlikely to rise by more than 59cm by 2099. (05/25/07)

Good news: Paramount talking with director about "An Inconvenient Truth 2" - By Allahpundit - At this rate, in a few years high-school curricula will consist entirely of Al Gore movies. Yes folks, An Inconvenient Truth Part 2 is on the way. It doesn't mention whether former presidential candidate (and, many would argue, rightful winner) Al Gore will be involved again, but I would imagine he'd have to be. According to the Truth's director, Davis Guggenheim, "I'm meeting with Paramount next week to talk about a sequel to Inconvenient Truth. Too early to talk about details." Considering the extremely low-key nature of the original, it was churned out in a mere five months, and that quick turnaround could mean we'll see the sequel in time for the 2008 presidential election. Wasn't the first one about the apocalyptic consequences if man continues to pursue the folly of driving SUVs? What's left for the sequel, some sort of Mad Max scenario where the Goracle battles mutants weaned on genetically modified food? (05/254/07)

Satire
Mary Cheney became pregnant by parthenogenesis; global warming to blame? - Frostbite Falls (Spoof News) Mary Cheney, daughter of Vice President Dick Cheney, gave birth today to an 8 and a half pound baby boy. "This has been an fascinating gestation period," said Dr. Bob Laub, head of obstetrics and gynecology at Millhouse Nixon Hospital in Frostbite Falls, Montana, where Mary and her partner Heather Poe live. Where's Chicken Little now? - There are ominous signs that the Earth's weather patterns have begun to change dramatically and that these changes may portend a drastic decline in food production - with serious political implications for just about every nation on earth. The drop in food production could begin soon, perhaps only 10 years from now. While this may seem like today's headlines, or a recent Al Gore speech, it's actually from a 1975 article in Newsweek magazine. Thirty years ago, the same scientific community, which is now going bonkers over global warming, was hyping a possible ice age. Had they been able to generate as much interest in the '70s as we see today, perhaps a younger and thinner Al Gore would have won an Oscar sooner for his "An Inconvenient Truth." Only it would have been about global cooling. Trying to logically discuss this issue in our society today is next to impossible, especially when so many view almost everything as a worst-case scenario. What if a tidal wave hits California? What if an asteroid hits us, or what if the terrorists get weapons of mass destruction? (05/24/07)

'Chicken Littles' lack proof about global warming - According to the US Department of Energy, the total worldwide carbon dioxide emissions in 2004 were 27 billion metric tons. (05/24/07)

Green group questions tree planting as global warming fix - The Total Environment Centre has criticised the practice of planting trees to address global warming problems. In a new report, the group says planting trees should be used as a last resort in carbon offset projects. (05/24/07)

Carbon offsets just 'guilt-free pollution' - A report from a leading green group says trees planted to cut greenhouse pollution will not start to work for decades and carbon offset schemes are simply "guilt-free pollution". The Total Environment Centre says planting trees should only be used as a last resort in carbon offset projects. Director Jeff Angel says a tree planted today will only begin to absorb carbon dioxide in decades to come. (05/24/07)

Global warming is misinformation - A letter from Bob Hendricks - I would encourage Town Crier columnist Laura Hagler ("It's not easy being green," May 12) to educate herself more on the so-called global warming issue. A propaganda film put out by a failed presidential candidate with no background in environmental issues might not be the best starting point for an education. In the 1970s, the same crowd who is crowing about global warming was shrieking about a pending ice age. It was covered extensively in Newsweek magazine in April 1975. The purpose of this commentary is not to disparage Hagler, but to uncover and discuss other sources of information on the subject. (05/23/07)

Global warming sparks political debate in Clarkstown - By AMISHA PADNANI - CLARKSTOWN - Greenhouse gas emissions are at the root of a recent political disagreement among town officials. The dissent centers on a recent vote by the Town Board to become a member of the International Council for Local Environmental Initiatives, an association of local governments that commit to preserving the environment. (05/23/07)

Letter: Not all glaciers shrinking due to global warming - By Ernie Ley, St. Cloud - We are told that glaciers all over the world are shrinking due to global warming. Glaciers expand and contract all the time, and while some glaciers are shrinking at present, others are growing. In New Zealand, for instance, the Franz Josef and Fox glaciers are advancing. According to a Jan. 21 report in The Press published in New Zealand, "Franz Josef and the Fox had advanced hundreds of meters in the past year." Meanwhile in India, the Hindustan Times reported on Feb. 11 that glaciers in the Himalayas appear stable, contrary to earlier reports that claimed that Himalayan glaciers were retreating more than 30 feet per year. Citing the work of scientist V.K. Raina, the Indian paper noted "that out of 9,575 glaciers in India to date, research has been conducted on only about 50." The Hindustan Times went on to say, "Nearly 200 years of data has shown that nothing abnormal has occurred in any of these glaciers." Why the discrepancy with earlier reports about massive melting in the Himalayas? "Claims of global warming causing glacial melt in the Himalayas are based on wrong assumptions," Raina told the Hindustan Times, proving once again that climate change is not as cut and dried as proponents of global warming claim. (05/23/07)

Fred Flintstone didn't drive a gas guzzler... - By Ruth Lea - Has the old left discovered 'global warming' following the collapse of Communism simply to further their objectives of controlling people's lives and undermining capitalism? Controlling climate change is now one of the major political issues of the day - and a profoundly misguided one at that. We're being told individuals can make a difference, that we should switch from ordinary light-bulbs to energy-savers. But face it, this will make little if any difference - especially for developing countries. (05/23/07)

This is what we deserve since we elected Moonbeam for AG. How soon we forget...
Brown asks EPA for global warming waiver - California Attorney General Jerry Brown appealed Tuesday to the Environmental Protection Agency for a waiver from the Clean Air Act so that it and 11 other states can impose more stringent rules on motor vehicle emissions than permitted by federal regulations in an effort to combat global warming. "This is bigger than Iraq," Brown told the largely friendly panel, headed by Sen. Barbara Boxer, a fellow California Democrat. "It is bigger than immigration. It's not tomorrow but it's coming around. The stakes have never been higher." (05/23/07)

One more reason not to nominate him...
McCain Sides With Leading Dems on Global Warming - Nathan Burchfiel - (CNSNews.com) - A panel discussion on global climate change Tuesday found Sen. John McCain's (R-Ariz.) staff agreeing with representatives for the leading Democratic presidential contenders. A cap-and-trade system for carbon emissions, they agreed, is the most promising solution to "global warming." (05/23/07)

Outside View: Global warming hysteria - By Loren B. Thompson - ARLIINGTON, VA, United States (UPI) -- Former Washington Post publisher Philip Graham described journalism as the 'first rough draft of history.' Perhaps rough draft of hysteria would be a better phrase to use in describing some of the overheated reporting about global warming that has appeared recently. (05/22/07)

Another hysterics reply - By Keith Ellis - The Al Gore film 'An Inconvenient Truth' convinced me that global warming is an urgent problem. I'll be delighted to find out I've been misled, but will keep planting trees just in case. Well, there's no law against being stupid. (05/22/07)

Global Overheating - By Jay D. Homnick - I'm thinking this line comes from Stephen Wright: "Why do people park on the driveway and drive on the parkway?" A recent variation on this inversion occurred with the state visits of Britain's dignitaries. The Queen came to Washington and stayed at Blair House. Then Blair came to Washington and stayed in the Queen's Room in the White House. (05/22/07)

Senator Says Global Warming Pact Could Hurt Utah's Economy - (KSL News) Governor Jon Huntsman has signed a green initiative to fight global warming, but Utah's industry leaders say the pact could hurt the state's economy. (05/22/07)

The $8-billion global-warming swindle - Before rushing into a climate-change panic, we need a real public debate - Paul MacRae, Times Colonist - For a scientific (as opposed to political) perspective, here's what University of California archeologist Brian Fagan has to say about global warming: "About 15,000 years ago, the ice sheets began to melt in earnest. The dramatic environmental changes associated with this warm-up make the climactic changes predicted by doomsday-sayers for the next millennium look puny in comparison." (05/22/07)

Carell's "Almighty" Spin-Off Spins Green Marketing - The "Almighty Forest," gives users an opportunity to take real action towards slowing the effects of global warming. For $5, visitors can plant a virtual tree, which will land their name in the credits of "Evan Almighty" and help the conservation fund plant real trees and support the good work they do to protect the environment. Cheng Yen: Global warming effects "result from the mind" - The global warming effects impacting all mankind are "actually the effects of the human mind and its insatiable desires," a lecturer quoted Master Cheng Yen, founder of the Buddhist Compassionate Relief Tzu Chi Foundation, as saying yesterday. In a special report presented at a monthly meeting of the Presidential Office, Ho Jih-sheng, spokesman for the foundation, said that, as Master Cheng Yen has often preached to her disciples, natural disasters are rooted in man-made misfortunes, or the "collective karma" of mankind. People numb to climate change alarm - By Simon Lauder - MARK COLVIN: When it comes to climate change it seems that people may have become numb to the language of alarm. Scientific reports and media stories have convinced most people that global warming is a huge problem, but there's evidence today that they don't do much about it. Global Warming Update - Did you see the story out of Canada, this kid has finally gone public. He's been forced to watch "An Inconvenient Truth" four times at school. He's a high school student. "Why am I having to watch this four times?" He had to watch the movie four times. It's happening all over the northern hemisphere, propagandizing kids. "Experts Predict Scorching Summer." (05/21/07)

Laurie David Uses Greensburg Tornado Disaster to Further Global Warming Alarmism - By Noel Sheppard - I'm not sure which is worse: using the Greensburg, Kansas, tornado disaster from last month to bash President Bush and the war in Iraq, or using it to further global warming alarmism. Regardless of the answer, one of soon-to-be-Dr. Al Gore's primary sycophants, Laurie David, actually wrote an article for the Huffington Post Sunday tying the devastation to this small town to climate change and green principles. Are Real Costs of Dealing With Climate Change Being Hidden From the Public? - By Noel Sheppard - As Al Gore and his band of not so merry global warming alarmists in buses and in the press try to convince Americans that they need to alter behaviors in order to save the planet, an inconvenient truth is being cynically withheld: this is going to cost a lot of money. Of course, one of the delicious hypocrisies is that these are the same people who decry the current economic boom as only helping the rich, and state regularly and fervently that the poor and middle-class are being left behind. At the same time, such mid- to lower-level wage earners should be saddled with exorbitant additional expenses to shelter them from a wolf that might never come knocking at their doors. Makes sense, right? (05/21/07)

Leonardo DiCaprio Fumes at Hypocrisy Charge on Global Warming - By Brenda Davis - The earth can be saved if we listen to Leonardo DiCaprio. He has worshipped at the feet of Al Gore on the global warming issue and presents a new film designed to 'scare' folks into believing that they are at fault for global warming. But Leo is not at fault. Just ask him, but be careful, he gets testy when quizzed on the way he lives his life. (05/20/07)

Satire? When it comes to Hansen, you never know...
Global Warming Spawns New Crisis: Spatial Warming - Global warming experts have discovered a new problem associated with the coming catastrophe. Top NASA scientist James E. Hansen points to a growing concern over spatial warming. Studies have shown recently that various parts of space near earth appear to be heating up. Recent measurements show an increase from an average of 0.01 Kelvins to 0.03 Kelvins, a 300% increase. Hansen suggested that some of this may result from global warming, as an increased amount of heat from the earth leaks into space. Others point to a surge in solar activity, while another group of scientists think there has been a growing concentration of carbon dioxide getting into outer space. (05/20/07)

Leonardo DiCaprio Film Claims Global Warming Could Cause Human Extinction - By Noel Sheppard - Honestly, the arrogance of some Hollywood liberals knows no bounds. As they live in their million dollar mansions, and jet-set around the world in a manner that 99.99 percent of the population can't fathom, these folks have the gall to tell others how they should alter their lives for the benefit of the planet. The most recent example is Leonardo DiCaprio, the 32-year-old actor that has absolutely no formal training in geology, climatology, meteorology, or anything in any way related to complex earth sciences. Robert Who? Global Warming Skeptic CEO Virtually Ignored - By Tom Blumer - Kimberley Strassel's OpinionJournal.com column about coal-mine operator Robert E. Murray of Murray Energy is important on a number of levels. You haven't heard of Robert E. Murray? That's not surprising. If there were an open dialog instead of continual blather about "settled science" when it comes to supposedly human-induced "climate change" and "global warming" (two concepts I like to collectively refer to as "globaloney"), Murray would have visibility. But, as Strassel writes, a different "climate," the political one, appears to be keeping him largely out of the public eye, despite his best efforts to break through. (05/20/07)

Australian Magazine Editor Slams Al Gore's "Live Earth" Concerts - By Noel Sheppard - Have you noticed that most of the articles you see that are skeptical about man's role in climate change come from foreign publications based in countries like Great Britain, Australia, New Zealand, and Canada? Why do you think that is? Are the American press too emotionally attached to the issue -- and, in particular, the chief spokesman, soon-to-be-Dr. Al Gore -- to even consider the possibility that the debate isn't over, and that their role as journalists is supposed to be to further discussion rather than squelch it? 19 per cent of India's global warming emissions from large dams, says study - Gargi Parsai - Globally large dams contribute to 24 per cent of methane emissions. In a year, emissions from India's large dams could be around 33.5 million tonnes. The study has come too late to be included in the recent reports from the IPCC. NEW DELHI: Latest scientific estimates show that large dams in India are responsible for about a fifth of the countries' total global warming impact. (05/19/07)

Global warming debunked - By Andrew Swallow - Climate change will be considered a joke in five years time, meteorologist Augie Auer told the annual meeting of Mid Canterbury Federated Farmers in Ashburton this week. Man's contribution to the greenhouse gases was so small we couldn't change the climate if we tried, he maintained. "We're all going to survive this. It's all going to be a joke in five years," he said. (05/19/07)

Al Gore, Fallin' In And Out of Love - Here's a story from Reuters, reporting on the breathless and goey Time magazine piece on Al Gore, lamenting that he's "fallen out of love with politics." Gosh, what will Tipper think? Of course, Time magazine has done its own falling in and out of love with global warming -- jumping on the hype this year but touting global cooling hysteria a few short decades ago. Nevermind, they fired that guy, it's all about warming now -- and Al Gore. Gotta love Al Gore. (05/18/07)

Global Warming Could Be Offset Until 2080s By Urban Green Spaces, UK - Scientists looking at the effect global warming will have on our major cities say a modest increase in the number of urban parks and street trees could offset decades of predicted temperature rises. The University of Manchester study has calculated that a mere 10% increase in the amount of green space in built-up centres would reduce urban surface temperatures by as much as 4°C. Really? Wx Expert: People Not To Blame For Global Warming - (CBS4) MIAMI Dr.William Gray is widely respected in the scientific community. He is a professor in the department of atmospheric science at Colorado State University and says it's much too early to blame people for global warming. "I think this is a natural cycle," said Dr. Gray. "I'm not saying humans aren't doing a little bit, but they're certainly not the major cause of the climate change." (05/18/07)

R Ravimohan: Global warming is part of evolution - Preparing to live in a warmer earth is as important, if not more important, as trying to cool it down. There has been a strident expression of concern on global warming in recent months. Good, well-researched and articulated studies have sought to establish that the globe we live in is getting warmer. These studies also have highlighted various kinds of harm that will befall the human race if we do not act to reverse the warming process. These are important messages that must be heeded, and acted upon. However, a global consensus on the need to act and on what that action should be is lacking. More seriously, there is no sign as yet of any convergence and willingness on the part of both the developed and the developing world to act to address this issue. (05/18/07)

Mitt Romney Spars With John McCain Over Global Warming - Mitt Romney today challenged John McCain to a one-on-one debate over global warming. The two candidates have starkly different positions on the issue. Romney supports global warming, arguing that northern places like his current state of Massachusetts, as well as Michigan and Utah, where he has deep connections, benefit from a warmer environment. Pitted against Romney is John McCain, from Arizona, a state that gets, as he puts it, "pretty damn hot" in the summer. McCain also is a survivor of skin cancer, and is generally thought to take this issue quite personally. A few days ago, McCain referred to Romney as "Oven Mitt" when the issue arose. (05/17/07)

Another State Climatologist Bashes Al Gore and Global Warming Alarmism - By Noel Sheppard - Do you hear that hissing sound? That's the balloon that soon-to-be-Dr. Al Gore and his band of not so merry alarmists have floated concerning a scientific consensus on man's role in global warming losing air. Commentary: Al Gore main problem with global warming - By David Hayford - The only topic that stirs more passion and vitriol than George Bush these days is GLOBAL WARMING. Letters to the editor on the subject contain gratuitous insults with few facts. That is, I believe, because the vast majority of us are totally ignorant of any scientific facts on the subject. I shall present my views without vitriol or insults, nor any pretense of scientific knowledge. Belief in global warming is a lot like belief in God - a lot of faith is required. (05/17/07)

Oppressors of global warming - On the "The News Hour with Jim Lehrer'' recently, a global-warming expert was discussing how cap-and-trade agreements might work, and while she was perfectly pleasant, there was something in her cool, technocratic description that made me feel I might be glimpsing a terribly oppressive future. The scheme she spoke of is often presented as a free-market means of curtailing fossil-fuel consumption, but listen carefully and you realize it would instead be a vast bureaucratic arrangement controlling significant operations of whole industries. List of Global Warming Skeptics Grows, Media Couldn't Care Less - By Noel Sheppard - While global warming alarmists like soon-to-be-Dr. Al Gore and his band of not so merry sycophants continue talking about a scientific consensus concerning man's role in "climate change," the list of scientists that have grown skeptical of this nexus continues to grow. Unfortunately, a media obsessed with advancing hysteria on the subject refuse to acknowledge the existence of such folks as they continue to pound the table about the imminent doom to the planet. State climatologist not jumping on global warming bandwagon - By Joey Vaughan - Many people who saw "An Inconvenient Truth," a global warming documentary featuring Al Gore, immediately became very concerned about global climate change and impending weather disasters. "Don't let anybody tell you there is." (05/16/07)

Energy Nonsense : Bush's ethanol plan is almost entirely bad. - By Jerry Taylor - President Bush's ability to pull-off impressive political sleights of hand was on full display this week. As some may recall, the Supreme Court recently found that the EPA has the legal authority to regulate greenhouse gases under the Clean Air Act without any further act of Congress. Moreover, the Court argued that, unless the agency were to find that greenhouse gas emissions cause no substantial injury to human health or the environment, the EPA must go forward and do exactly that. Climate Momentum Shifting: Prominent Scientists Reverse Belief in Man-made Global Warming - Now Skeptics - Growing Number of Scientists Convert to Skeptics After Reviewing New Research - By Marc Morano - Following the U.S. Senate's vote today on a global warming measure (see today's AP article: Senate Defeats Climate Change Measure,) it is an opportune time to examine the recent and quite remarkable momentum shift taking place in climate science. Many former believers in catastrophic man-made global warming have recently reversed themselves and are now climate skeptics. The names included below are just a sampling of the prominent scientists who have spoken out recently to oppose former Vice President Al Gore, the United Nations and the media driven "consensus" on man-made global warming. Runaway Models - Climate Change: It turns out that the global warming theorists have missed on another of their predictions. Shouldn't that be a deeply harmful, if not fatal, blow to the credibility of their argument? James Hansen, the NASA scientist who is largely responsible for the global warming hysteria, knows as well as anyone that general circulation models spin out projections that are not reflected in the real world. His model predicted a 0.45 degree Celsius (0.81 degree Fahrenheit) rise in global temperature between 1988 and 1997. But it was off by a factor of four. The United Nations' Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change records show that ground-based temperatures had increased by only 0.11 degree Celsius. Hansen's projection didn't fare well when compared with other measurements, either. In fact, it looks downright silly. (05/15/07)

Global Warming Comes to Neptune - By Matthew Sheffield - Watching the global warming alarmists it's amazing to see how much they completely discount the sun's role in determining the earth's temperature. It's something that can be readily observed simply by stepping outside during the day and at night. Yet, we almost never hear the sun mentioned by Al Gore and friends. This is despite the fact that astronomy continues to prove that the sun has an influence on its planets temperatures and is likely to be responsible for observable warming of the earth. First came the news that Mars is getting warmer, now comes the news that Neptune is also experiencing global warming: (05/15/07)

'Early Show' Uses Feature Story to Lobby Congress on Global Warming Alarmism - By Justin McCarthy - "Early Show's" cheery weatherman Dave Price used his forum to feature Dan Lewis, Starbucks regional marketing manager, and Matt Petersen, the CEO of, Global Green USA, a left wing environmental group. While much of the story focused on what individuals can do to save the planet, Petersen noted that "global warming is a serious issue, and we need our leaders in Washington to act, our corporate leaders to act." Petersen also encouraged the viewers to "send a message to Washington" about what viewers "think they should be doing about global warming." (05/15/07)

Soil's contribution to global warming - The University of Melbourne - Greenhouse gases are not only emitted by industry, cars or households. In addition to carbon dioxide, other greenhouse gases are emitted by soils as part of the natural cycling of nutrients and decomposition. These so called non-CO2 greenhouse gases are more potent than carbon dioxide with regard to global warming, and already make up one quarter of Australia's greenhouse gas emissions. (05/15/07)

Teachers score in Surrey battle over Gore's Inconvenient Truth - Suzanne Fournier, The Province - Surrey students will be allowed to see Al Gore's film on climate change, even though trustee Heather Stilwell is demanding that a film slamming Gore's evidence be shown as well. I try to read a book a week, three or four newspapers a day (need to know what the enemy is up to). I must admit, much of what I convey in my columns is information I have gained from others. Global Warming shows human gene pool compromise from Manipulative Extraterrestrial Consciousnesses - By David Stein - It is apparent that the intelligences that are directing humanity into its course of self-destruction undoubtedly view Earth as an "alien planet" which is to be exploited to its destruction, before moving onto other planets, which can also be exploited. Therefore, a critical observer who appreciates that Extraterrestrials have had contact with humanity over its course of development on planet Earth can logically conclude the following. Humans who act inconsistent with a self-preservation context on Earth, have either been manipulated at the genetic level, or are being manipulated by beings who if human in appearance, have been genetically compromised in a manner in which the vital self-preservation context of living species on our planet Earth has been somehow disabled or replaced. Did the U.N.'s IPCC Report Exaggerate CO2 Increases to Hype Global Warming? - By Noel Sheppard - Those who have been following the manmade global warming debate are well aware that every time the United Nation's Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change issues another dire pronouncement, the media report the bad news every hour on the hour. However, what if a new scientific study concluded that the IPCC cherry-picked data concerning CO2 levels in the past in order to make it look like today's levels are out of the ordinary. Would the media report that? Well, an article written by scientists Dr. Tim Ball and Tom Harris of the Natural Resources Stewardship Project was published on Monday making exact this claim. (05/14/07)

New findings indicate today's greenhouse gas levels not unusual - By Dr. Tim Ball and Tom Harris - "Stopping climate change" may be all the rage with celebrities and environmental lobbyists, but fortunately for the rest of us, the scare's scientific foundation is rapidly disintegrating. One of the fundamental pillars of the hypothesis that humanity is causing dangerous climate change is the belief that levels of carbon dioxide (CO2), the greenhouse gas of concern in countries such as Canada, have been rising steadily since the start of the industrial revolution. But what if CO2 levels have not increased? How could our emissions of this otherwise benign gas then have anything to do with the past century's modest warming? (05/14/07)

The organizer of Live Aid and Live 8 benefit concerts has basically ripped into the failed presidential candidate and Global Warming alarmist saying the Live Earth music events Al Gore is putting together this summer lack a specific goal, according to a Dutch newspaper report Saturday. In a plan that many have already criticized, the Live Earth concerts will be held in cities around the world on July 7, with proceeds funding a yet-to-be-named foundation to combat climate change, under Gore's direction. In other words, hand money to Al Gore and he will decide what to do with it later. But that's not the reason he is feeling the wrath of the former Boomtown Rats' frontman. (05/13/07)

The coming cool - By David Warren, The Ottawa Citizen - A few months ago, I wrote a series of unflattering columns on current trends among the Gaia worshippers. The last of these opened, "The more I think about 'global warming,' in light of the most recent United Nations report, the more confident I become in averring that it is a fraud, a political stunt, a criminal imposture, that every intelligent journalist should be helping to expose." (05/13/07)

OK; how many of you enviros have lawns? Al? Sheryl? Laurie?
Lawns affect warming - The question: When is a lawn not a lawn? The answer: When it is a landscape. Grass as a source of carbon emissions? Apparently it is, because the booklet's 10 suggestions for eco-friendly gardening practices includes this: Trees and shrubs utilize carbon dioxide in photosynthesis and sequester carbon for years, decades, and for a century in some species. Lawns only sequester the carbon compounds they produce for a few weeks at the most. (05/13/07)

Global warming pecans - By Colin McNickle - The global warming alarmist industry has turned so wacko that even "intellectual vapidity" is too weak a phrase to describe it. And never have so many been so totally buffaloed by the ecocrats' redefining of "political science." (05/13/07)

Stick to the science on global warming - Regarding "Climate change merits serious talk, not hype" (Opinions, Wednesday): Robert Robb's column about global warming is where the thinking on the subject should be. It is a topic for the scientific community to continue studying, not one to exaggerate and exploit for profit, the way a former vice president is doing. The "Chicken Little" scientists and their political cronies who spread fear through their so-called informed speculation - Joseph Fraher,Gold Canyon (05/13/07)

Al Gore Protested by 'Environmental Militants' in Argentina, Media Mum - By Noel Sheppard - When President Bush receives protests as he travels abroad, it's front-page headline news. Yet, when former Vice President Al Gore is so protested, the media couldn't care less. Although the Associated Press did report Gore's visit to Buenos Aires, Argentina, to speak at a biofuels conference Friday, virtually no American media outlet picked up the story: As Gore spoke, outside the hotel demonstrators on bicycles and wearing surgical masks chanted slogans against multinational agribusinesses, saying the biofuel boom will cause deforestation and turn arable land into deserts. Sadly, there wasn't a lot of details in this piece about the actual protests. Thankfully, I received the following La Nacion article by e-mail yesterday with a translation that offered a lot more insights into the matter: (05/12/07)

Hot Air, Cold Cash : Who are the Merchants of Fear? - By ALEXANDER COCKBURN - No response is more predictable than the reflexive squawk of the Greenhouse fearmongers that anyone questioning their claims is in the pay of the energy companies. A second, equally predictable retort contrasts the ever-diminishing number of agnostics to the growing legions of scientists now born again to the "truth" that anthropogenic CO2 is responsible for the earth's warming trend, the melting of the icecaps, the rising of the seas, the increase in hurricanes, the decline in penguin fertility and other horrors too numerous for individual citation. Global warming will soon put incandescents in the dark - NEW YORK - The light bulb, the symbol of bright ideas, doesn't look like such a great idea anymore, as lawmakers in the United States and abroad are talking about banning the century-old technology because of its contribution to global warming. But what comes next? Compact fluorescent bulbs are the only real alternative right now, but "bulbs" that use light-emitting diodes, or LEDs, are quickly emerging as a challenger. LEDs, which are small chips usually encased in a glass dome the size of a matchstick head, have been in use in electronics for decades to indicate, for example, whether a VCR is on or off. The Spy Who Went Into The Heat - By John J. Miller - Something tells me that when it comes to predicting the weather, intelligence agencies should be more concerned with mushroom clouds over American cities than icebergs near Greenland. (05/12/07)

Study: 'Global Warming' Making Northern Hemisphere Greener - By: James M. Taylor - Rising carbon dioxide levels in the atmosphere, together with moderately warming temperatures, have caused a substantial greening of the Northern Hemisphere. That's according to Craig Idso, founder and former president of the Center for the Study of Carbon Dioxide and Global Change, reporting in the March 14 issue of CO2 Science. (05/12/07)

I THINK I OWE THE GREENIES AN APOLOGY - Ever since I first started doing research into environmentalism over 30 years ago, it has seemed obvious to me that they are simply a revival of mankind's most primitive religion - nature worship. Awe before nature is in fact probably so primitive and goes back so far that it has to an extent been hardwired into us. (05/12/07)

Global Warming Not Major Cause of Storms - By Vanessa Rozier - According to experts like William M. Gray and Phil Klotzbach, research associates in the Department of Atmospheric Science at Colorado State University, it is not global warming, but "changes in ocean salinity" that can be blamed for the surge in natural disasters in the United States. (05/12/07)

A Student's Opinion on Global Warming - My hypothesis: Global warming is real; however, so is global cooling. Some areas will heat up dramatically and some will cool down exponentially. (05/12/07)

Bad Climate "Science" The ideology goes in before the science goes on. - By Joel Schwartz - Assume that human greenhouse-gas emissions are causing dangerous changes in the Earth's climate. What should we do about it? Public debate on climate change has focused almost solely on requiring large reductions in fossil-fuel energy consumption. Enter the journal Nature with a new feature article on another potential means of dealing with climate change. (05/11/07)

Global warming : 'scare mongering' - Ronald Reagan has been quoted as saying, "Facts are very stubborn things." And indeed, they are. Here are a few stubborn facts about global warming. It is fact that our planet is warming. It started warming around 1850 and warmed a little over one degree Fahrenheit between 1850 and 1940. Then, there was a slight cooling between 1940 and 1970. It has continued warming since 1970. It is fact that the planet goes through cycles of cooling and warming, and has been doing so for thousands of years. There have been previous warm periods in history, most notably around 900 A.D. until after 1300 A.D., when the Danes had farms in Greenland, and during the height of the Roman Empire from about 200 B.C. to 600 A.D. It is fact that the computer models that are being used to predict long-range global warming fail when they are applied to historic past warming periods. If a computer model cannot reconstruct the past, how can it be relied on to predict the future? (05/11/07)

CNN's Situation Room Asks 'What If the World Took Climate Change Seriously?' - By Matthew Balan - The mainstream media's promotion of climate change hype continues unfettered. A segment on Thursday's "The Situation Room" wholeheartedly embraced the theory of human-caused global warming, and the International Panel on Climate Change's recent "action plan" to do something about it. (05/11/07)

Unmasking Global Warming: The Case of Mikhail Gorbachev - By Vasko Kohlmayer - The most remarkable aspect of the man-made global warming claim is the lack of solid scientific evidence for it. Yet there are those whose apparent goal it is to advance this theory at all costs. Blatant in their disregard of the facts, they try to convince as many as would believe of the real nature of this alleged danger. But since this activism does not rest on scientific evidence or hard facts, it must be driven by motives other than those publicly stated. This much at least should be obvious, but sadly far too many people have failed to make this inference. Blinded by fear, they have not considered the possibility that those fanning the flames of hysteria may harbor ulterior motives. (05/11/07)

What Kindergartners Think of Global Warming - I have recently found myself in the unexpected and rather wonderful position of kindergarten science teacher at a Manhattan independent school. The kids are fascinated by and thirsty for science, and were riveted by our unit on color, light, and shadow that was ongoing when I stepped in. However, no lesson I have taught yet galvanized their passion and attention like this week's impromptu discussions on global warming. (05/11/07)

Scientists Urge Gore to Cool His Global Warming Rhetoric - By Bonner R. Cohen - While basking in the afterglow of having his movie, An Inconvenient Truth, awarded an Oscar, former vice president Al Gore is finding his rhetorical flourishes on the subject of global warming aren't always welcome, even among his supporters in the scientific community. (05/11/07)

Governor all but threatens global warming veto - MONTPELIER, Vt. - Gov. Jim Douglas all but threatened to veto a global climate change compromise bill on Thursday, decrying a tax that would fund it and the bureaucracy that he says it would create. (05/11/07)

More good news for lawyers
A changing climate - Birmingham Business Journal - By Ty West - With global warming and climate change among the hot topics of the day and the potential of tightened emissions regulations from the Environmental Protection Agency, some environmental lawyers see opportunity on the horizon. That's because local experts say that changes in environmental law and regulations could not only lead to more casework and litigation but could also play a major role in how many manufacturers do business. A new level of absurdity has been reached
Global warming heats up debate over Arctic sovereignty, foreign threats - Sheldon Alberts, - WASHINGTON - A group of retired American generals and admirals has warned Congress the U.S. faces a dire threat to its national security from global warming - and flagged Canada's claim to Arctic sovereignty as a future flashpoint between the two longstanding allies. (05/11/07)

Shadegg remarks show tough time for House panel on global warming - Mike Madden - WASHINGTON - The hearing was almost over, but Rep. John Shadegg was just getting started. The Republican from Arizona took the microphone at a recent hearing of the new House Select Committee on Energy Independence and Global Warming and proceeded to ignore the witnesses testifying on how climate change could affect the insurance business. Good! (05/11/07)

Global Warming Suspicions and Confusions - By Justin Podur - In recent years, a number of important contributions have influenced the growing debate on global warming. Paul Baer and Tom Athanasiou's book, Dead Heat, from a few years ago, was excellent. Noam Chomsky's latest book, Failed States, mentions global warming as one of the three more urgent problems humanity faces (the others being war and the lack of democratic institutions to deal with problems). George Monbiot's new book, Heat, provides a workable set of proposals for stabilizing the climate without draconian sacrifice (except commercial flight). (05/11/07)

From the JunkMan
Junk Science: Climate-Controlled Classroom? - By Steven Milloy - Should schools teach the global warming controversy by showing students only Al Gore's alarmist movie? Roger Williams University just learned the answer to that question the hard way. (05/11/07)

ERAU professor seeks balance in global warming debate - By MARK HARPER - DAYTONA BEACH - Nick Shipley, an Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University freshman, had just spent a week of classes watching two films with polar-opposite conclusions about global warming. "After watching 'An Inconvenient Truth,' I was relatively convinced," Shipley said one day last month in class. "(Al Gore) did a good job in presenting his points very methodically one after the other. They all build up to essentially prove his point. "After watching 'The Great Global Warming Swindle,' my thinking completely changed," he said. "I kind of did a complete flip-flop." (05/10/07)

The Greenpeace in the chicken coop (from the Politics Blog) - Here's a little insight into how the "global consensus" on climate change is formed. The Times of London reports that "tackling global warming need not cost the Earth, a panel of UN scientists said today. In the third in a series of reports, the IPCC said that keeping the rise in temperatures to within 2 degrees C would cost only 0.12 per cent of annual gross domestic product if governments exploited new technologies to cut greenhouse gas emissions." So who authored this rosy, "scientific" scenario? "It's a low premium to pay to reduce the risk of major climate damage," Bill Hare, a Greenpeace adviser who co-authored the report, told Reuters news agency after the culmination of marathon negotiations. That's right - Greenpeace. One of the world's leading proponents of climate change. Would the MSM declare a report written by Exxon-Mobil to be the definitive report on global warming? Needless to say, Greenpeace's - er, the IPCC's - conclusion is nonsense. As a Wharton Business School of Economic study found, implementing Kyoto would cost the US about 2.3% of its GDP - or about 20 times 0.12%. And that's just to comply with Kyoto, which doesn't come close to lowering emissions by the 85% that the IPCC claims is required to keep temperature increases below 2C. (05/10/07)

Weather Expert: Sub-tropical Storms Being Named to Fuel Global Warming Alarmism - By Noel Sheppard - For weather watchers, the name Joe Sobel should be a familiar one, as he has been with AccuWeather for 35 years, and is a regular guest on radio stations as well as MSNBC. With that in mind, Dr. Sobel posted an article at the AccuWeather blog Wednesday highly critical of the naming of sub-tropical storms, most recently Andrea. In his view, this practice - which is only five years old - is exaggerating the number of storms per year thereby adding to global warming alarmism. (05/10/07)

Biofuel or Biohazard? - There is a need for biofuel certification, and the ugly inconvenient truth is if you came up with a comprehensive set of criteria for biofuel certification, there may not be any environmentally justifiable reason to grow biofuel, other than in certain low yield applications in arid regions to stablize soil, and within contained, factory environments. (05/10/07)

Warming fallacy - By Larry Kelley - The sun's output has been steadily increasing, as is evidenced by the melting of the polar ice caps on Mars, the liquefying of Saturn's ice-covered moons and the fact that Pluto is maintaining an atmosphere further into its solar apogee. Nothing we can do will halt the cyclic heating of the sun. The truth is the New World Order crowd, including the United Nations and the Council on Foreign Relations, have seized on this opportunity to blitz the controlled media into imposing a global tax on carbon emissions. Increased control and surveillance will follow. (05/10/07)

Power plan dooms world's poor - By LORRIE GOLDSTEIN - Environmentalists keep telling us they love humanity. So apparently it's just people a lot of them have trouble with. This tendency is being noted with alarm even by former environmental crusaders, as the hysteria over global warming escalates. (05/10/07)

This is a must read!
JANET ALBRECHTSEN: Hysterics 101 - APPARENTLY, the NSW Board of Studies is looking to introduce climate change classes for kindergarten to Year 6 children as part of its science and technology syllabus. The problem, of course, is what they will be taught. There are plenty of reasons for concern on this score. Adults have barely engaged in a grown-up conversation over the causes of global warming. Debate over the what, how, why, and when on global warming has been drowned out by hysteria. If you disagree with some of the science, and the religious fervour it has fuelled, or even evince a level of agnosticism towards it, you are not just wrong. You are a bad person forced to defend your integrity as well as your arguments (05/10/07)

The Battle of the Bulb - By Pamela Meister - Believe it or not, several states have fallen for the "global warming" hysteria, introducing legislation designed to ban traditional light bulbs in favor of fluorescents! FSM Contributing Editor Pam Meister takes misguided politicians to task in this entertaining and informative article. (05/10/07)

Oh Jeezus!
Hybrid-driving media mogul finds it's easy being green - By Mark Coultan, Herald Correspondent in New York - RUPERT MURDOCH has got the message, and now he wants the rest of us to get it, too. He's become a convert to concerns about global warming and climate change. He recently bought himself a hybrid car. And if you believe this, I got some carbon offsets I'll sell ya... (05/10/07)

This article was written by Randy Hall, staff writer and editor at CNSNews.com - To receive a degree from Roger Williams University in Rhode Island, students are being forced to watch "An Inconvenient Truth," the documentary on global warming produced by former Vice President Al Gore. The science class requirement has prompted one conservative student to declare that "we should stop calling these schools 'bastions of knowledge' since they're really bastions of leftist thought." (05/09/07)

I'll give you something to worry about - David Warren, The Ottawa Citizen - I have written before in these pages that "global warming" is a great imposture and fraud that will, a generation from now, look like the Club of Rome forecasts for a generation ago. That aside, it is tremendously consequential: not because the predictions are plausible (they are based on computer modelling, which cannot even tell you reliably what the weather will be next week), but because it offers a "window of impunity" to vastly increase the scope of government. That is why, all over the world, politicians have scrambled aboard the climate-change bandwagon even more enthusiastically than the media. (05/09/07)

German Mag Debunks Climate Change Hysteria, Extols Benefits of Warming Planet - By Noel Sheppard - Here's something you're unlikely to see in an American newspaper or magazine: global warming might actually be good for the planet and its inhabitants. This radical idea was advanced Monday by the German magazine Der Spiegel which did something I can't imagine a U.S. publication having the nerve to do in this highly politicized environment: offer readers a comprehensive, balanced view of the pluses and minuses inherent in a warming earth.
