New Rules: Bill Maher has to stop telling conservatives when they can or cannot roll their eyes. - By Dennis E. Keizer - Last Friday HBO's Bill Maher gave us "his take" on why France is so good and America is so bad. One only needs to examine the transcript to see how much envy Mr. Bill has for France"

George Soros backed Media Matters Launches "Global Warming Spin Machine" in attempt to discredit skeptics! - In a further attempt to stifle any opposing view on climate change, the liberal media watchdog group Media Matters has launched "Global Warming: Misinformation Action Center" your comments...

Global Warming Deception - Part I : A thesis becomes political ideology - By Klaus Mueller, Epoch Times German Staff - Are carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions the cause of global warming? In Germany, a scientist may still perform critical analysis to prove or disprove this assumption, though time is probably running out. The desired results have already been determined. (05/31/07)

Hurricane Contest almost underway - By Scott Maxwell - We're going to use this blog to keep tabs on Taking Names" 2007 Forecasting Face-off" -- the contest where I'm pitting the hurricane predictions of famed forecaster William Gray against a monkey, a preschooler and a columnist. My basic contention is that this whole prediction thing is so hit-and-miss that even a monkey ... or columnist ... could do as well. Just check out last year's season where Gray's predictions were an Category 5 disaster. Anyway, I have a link to the original column with all the predictions -- from Gray, me, my monkey and my boy -- right here. And we'll keep tabs on it throughout the season, which starts tomorrow. TOPIC OF THE DAY: Global warming - Alarmist views are propaganda - Al Gore's documentary "An Inconvenient Truth" is more alarmist misinformation than truth. The debate concerning global warming is not over. Many of the world's leading scientists and climatologists say the film is frightening but false propaganda. Most climatologists reject the theory that higher carbon dioxide emissions cause heat buildup. Temperature actually changes before CO2 emissions rise, the exact opposite. (05/31/07)

ABC's Global Warming Piece Ignores Decades of Hysteria from NASA's James Hansen - By Noel Sheppard - ABC's Bill Blakemore wrote an article posted at the network's website Tuesday citing global warming alarmist and NASA scientist James Hansen as stating that the earth is at a tipping point "with dangerous consequences to the planet" (05/31/07)

NASA Chief Questions Urgency of Global Warming - NASA administrator Michael Griffin defends the space agency's programs, including plans for a permanent moon base and manned missions to Mars. He also says that while NASA studies climate change, the agency has no authorization to "take actions to affect climate change in either one way or another." (05/31/07)

Look closer at other side of global warming issue - You hear it everyday: "Humans are destroying the Earth! We need to offset our carbon emissions," etc., etc. I have a hard time believing humans are the only cause of this so-called climate change disaster. I'm not alone in my opinion, either. (05/31/07)

Global Warming Hysteria is a National Security Issue - By Gerd Schroeder - Recently in the news several retired US generals, came out in favor of using defense resources for fighting the effects of global warming. The news media only carried it for a day or so, but it raised some potent strategic issues that should be discussed. (05/31/07)

Global-warming debate needs dissenters - Times Colonist - Both points of view in the global warming debate have legitimate arguments. Yes, mankind is producing too much greenhouse gases and other pollutants and we have to stop. Also undisputed is the fact that the climate is changing and getting warmer. The argument is over the cause. (05/30/07)

Dam the Salmon - By SHIKHA DALMIA - Al Gore has been hectoring Americans to pare back their lifestyles to fight global warming. But if Mr. Gore wants us to rethink our priorities in the face of this mother of all environmental threats, surely he has convinced his fellow greens to rethink theirs, right? Wrong. If their opposition to the Klamath hydroelectric dams in the Pacific Northwest is any indication, the greens, it appears, are just as unwilling to sacrifice their pet causes as a Texas rancher is to sacrifice his pickup truck. If anything, the radicalization of the environmental movement is the bigger obstacle to addressing global warming than the allegedly gluttonous American way of life. (05/29/07)

A Challenge To Al Gore - Older folks sometimes snip about the younger generation and the litany of complaints is long and varied. But if all students are like Kristen Byrnes of Portland, Maine, the nation has nothing to worry about. Ms. Byrnes is a 15-year-old student at Portland High School and, when she is not running track and field, takes all honors classes, including Earth Science. Former Vice President Al Gore's film "A Convenient Truth" is being shown in many high school classes today. Apparently, Ms. Byrnes became upset at the sloppy science in the movie. So as a project for her Earth Science class, she created her own Web site and, well, very politely and scientifically, ripped the global-warming-caused-by-man theory to shreds. Her Web site looks at global warming "without financial and political bias." That should cause concern to global warming advocates right there. Plus, "It uses the most updated information provided by scientists and researchers and interjects common sense, an important component missing from the global warming debate." Using common sense against hysteria. Wonder if that will work? (05/29/07)

A global hysteria - By BEN-PETER TERPSTRA - TIME Magazine believes that former US vice-president Al Gore and "global warming" sermons are a great combination. That is why their environmental doctrines are so very bizarre, I guess. How bizarre? Try reading the magazine's "Global Warming Survival Guide" dated April 9, 2007, and the "51 Things You Can Do to Make a Difference". Rule 26: "Plant a bamboo fence", because it feels good? Unprecedented levels of idiocy aside, there's plenty to laugh about. (05/29/07)

Adventurer to swim at the North Pole to highlight global warming - By John Joseph - LONDON (Reuters) - A British adventurer is planning to highlight the effects of global warming by becoming the first person to swim at the North Pole and break his own record for the coldest swim. "I can't think of a better way to show that climate change is a reality than by swimming in a place that should be totally frozen over. I hope it will ... put pressure on the leaders of the G8 summit to cut carbon emissions dramatically," he said in a statement. (05/29/07)

FIRST GLOBAL WARMING LAWSUIT LAUNCHED AGAINST CANADA - 29/5/07 9:27AM - Media Release - For Immediate Release Attention News/Political/Climate Change Reporters and Assignment Editors: (Ottawa, Canada, May 29, 2007) Friends of the Earth Canada has launched a landmark lawsuit today against the Government of Canada for abandoning its international commitments under the Kyoto Protocol. Filed in Federal Court in Ottawa by Canada's foremost environmental law organization, Sierra Legal, the lawsuit alleges that the federal government is violating Canadian law by failing to meet its binding international commitments to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. India Rejects Global Warming Hysteria, Says Kyoto Hurts Economy, Worsens Poverty - By Noel Sheppard - As global warming alarmists in the media and on tour buses enflame hysteria concerning a nonexistent climate crisis, there is an inconvenient truth they routinely ignore: carbon dioxide emission reductions will hurt economies across the globe while worsening poverty. This seemingly immutable fact, which continually eludes the deluded such as soon-to-be-Dr. Al Gore and his band of not so merry sycophants, is understood by India which has up to this point refused to participate in any emissions requirements set forth by the United Nations. See? We told you...
"Rich countries should pay global warming bill": Oxfam - London: Barely 10 days before a crucial Group of Eight (G8) summit in Germany which is expected to discuss climate change as the core issue, aid agency Oxfam has said coping with the damages of global warming will cost $50 billion a year, and the rich nations who caused most of the pollution must pay most of the bill. The most annoying song you will ever hear!
Portland teens make a musical global warming plea - George et al. might be cool with a warmer planet, but Katie and Una aren't having it. In a musical plea tolerable because it comes from the mouths of babes (the young-in kind, not the hottie variety, though they are cute little gals), a Northwest band called Blübird urges U.S. leaders to address climate change. In "What If We Don't Want to Be Warm?", the teenage Blübirds sing:

Please don't melt our glaciers, please don't kill us all. Please don't destroy our atmosphere, the sun will kill us all. CHORUS: Global warming it's not just a prediction anymore. It's not just a prediction anymore -- it's true. Help!

Download their polar bear mask, or listen to the stripped-down rock-and-roll of "What if..." here:

No word on whether folks with the Bush administration have heard Blübird's song. Leaders here are continuing to fight language being proposed for a global-warming declaration to be presented at next month's Group of Eight summit. (05/28/07)

I Was On the Global Warming Gravy Train - By David Evans - I devoted six years to carbon accounting, building models for the Australian government to estimate carbon emissions from land use change and forestry. When I started that job in 1999 the evidence that carbon emissions caused global warming seemed pretty conclusive, but since then new evidence has weakened that case. I am now skeptical. (05/28/07)

Pelosi Holds Global Warming Talks as Late-May Snows Fall in U.S., Canada and England - By Noel Sheppard - Yes, folks, it's Memorial Day weekend, snow is still falling in parts of America, England, and Canada, and our House Speaker is traveling abroad to discuss the global warming crisis. You really can't make this stuff up! What's potentially more comical is that Nancy Pelosi probably doesn't get the joke, and the press will likely hide the delicious irony so as not to allow the citizenry to get distracted from all the climate change hysteria. Thankfully, the folks at NewsBusters are more than happy to share a little vaudeville with their readers to brighten up the holiday. (05/28/07)

Carbon offsets challenged as fix for global warming: Increasingly, people having trees planted to neutralize greenhouse gas - Associated Press - ALBANY, N.Y. // If you plant some trees, is it OK to drive an Escalade? The question isn't as silly as it sounds. People worried about global warming increasingly are trying to offset the carbon dioxide - the leading greenhouse gas - they spew into the atmosphere when they drive, fly or flick on a light. One idea popular with the eco-conscious is to have trees planted for them. You get to keep driving and flying, but those trees are supposed to suck in your trail of carbon. (05/28/07)

Reader questions global warming - Once again, the government is keeping us in a state of fear, the media is selling papers, lawyers are sharpening pencils, thousands of scientists and pseudo-scientists are raking in money, and Al Gore may win the biggest jackpot of all by becoming president, all as a result of totally erroneous theory. Antarctic ice is calving on one side, and getting thicker by 26 billion tonnes per year on the other. Antarctica has experienced unusually cold weather. Greenland's glaciers are recovering from the last warming period and have regained half of what they lost in the last 400 years. We had fewer storms last year than the year before, and I challenge anyone to prove that they were more severe. Temperatures in many parts of the U.S. (the most reliable source of historical temperatures) have risen slightly, and, in other parts, have fallen or stayed the same over the last 100 years. CO2 rose from 1940 to 1970 but global temperatures fell. (05/28/07)

From the JunkMan
Junk Science: Hot Air Study Melts Global Warming Theory - By Steven Milloy - Global warming alarmists may want to expedite their efforts to hamstring the global economy with greenhouse gas regulation. A new study touted as showing that we're not sufficiently panicky about manmade carbon dioxide emissions actually supports the exact opposite conclusion. "Warnings about global warming may not be dire enough, according to a climate study that describes a runaway-train acceleration of industrial carbon dioxide emissions," USA Today shrieked this week. (05/27/07)

The Great Global Warming Swindle - By S. Fred Singer - Al Gore's An Inconvenient Truth has met its match: a devastating documentary recently shown on British television, which has now been viewed by millions of people on the Internet. Despite its flamboyant title, The Great Global Warming Swindle is based on sound science and interviews with real climate scientists, including me. An Inconvenient Truth, on the other hand, is mostly an emotional presentation from a single politician.

Leadership on Global Warming - In their May 21 op-ed, "Lead or Step Aside, EPA," California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger and Connecticut Gov. Jodi Rell unfairly criticized the Environmental Protection Agency's alleged inaction on addressing the challenge of global climate change. Regrettably, their comments failed to recognize that the Bush administration has led America's unparalleled financial, international and domestic efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. The administration has invested more than $37 billion on climate change -- more than any other country's government has spent. (05/27/07)

Open your eyes to see who really is doing the swindling - Miranda Devine - After months of dithering, the ABC has announced it will broadcast, but not until July, the controversial British documentary The Great Global Warming Swindle, a science-backed rebuttal of Al Gore's An Inconvenient Truth. Dark conspiracy theories have ensued. Surely the national broadcaster would never air such a dangerous, subversive heresy unless forced to by a board stacked with execrable right wingers. "We're not into censorship," ABC science journalist Robyn Williams said while doing back-to-back interviews last week denouncing the program. But he advised the TV division not to buy it anyway. ABC director of television Kim Dalton wrote an article defending himself against charges that "our decision to show such a documentary is dangerous and damaging" because the debate on climate change "is over". He cited several ABC shows which embrace the concept of human-caused climate change as some sort of antidote to TGGWS. "And if it were available to us we would love to show Al Gore's film, An Inconvenient Truth". What's the bet Williams wouldn't be advising against that one. In one interview he likened TGGWS to "flaky stuff" such as Psychic Detectives. (05/27/07)

Solar plans at governor's mansion uneconomical - The plan of Silda Wall Spitzer (Times Union, May 2) to install solar energy in the governor's mansion illustrates why we are making little progress in achieving energy independence and reducing global warming. The plan is grossly uneconomical and does not provide an example likely to be followed by many others. The plan calls for spending $575,000 to save $26,000 per year in energy costs. If a homeowner were to take a home equity loan over 15 years (the time frame of the plan), annual interest alone would be about $42,000 and total payment including principal would be about $53,000, double the annual saving. (Amounts are based on rates quoted on the Citizens Bank Web site.) The difference between savings and real costs will, of course, be borne by the taxpayer. (05/27/07)

How to profit from global warming - A new index lets you make money from rising temperatures, but it's not the only way that you can climb on the green bandwagon. INVESTORS are being offered the chance to profit from climate change with the launch of an index that lets you bet on rising global temperatures. (05/27/07)

How to turn global warming into a tourist attraction - Celebrities are flocking to a small town in Greenland - helping to accelerate the very climate-change process they've come to witness. All of these visitors will, of course, help to accelerate the very global-warming process they have come to witness. But the residents of Ilulissat do not mind, because warming is good for business. US objects to G8 global warming declaration - WASHINGTON - The United States has raised new serious objections to a proposed global warming declaration prepared by Germany for next month's Group of Eight summit, The Washington Post reported yesterday. (05/27/07)

Global warming-hurricane link spurs controversy - Reuters - By Deborah Zabarenko, Environment Correspondent - WASHINGTON, May 27 (Reuters) - Climate scientists agree there have been a lot of strong hurricanes lately. They agree that warmer seas have given these storms some extra punch. But they disagree how much global warming is to blame. (05/27/07)

Man has no control over global warming - Will someone explain to me how anyone can believe that mankind can control the warmth or the coolness of this planet we call earth? (05/27/07)

Biofuels Force Food Prices Up as People Starve - [Opinion] Fidel Castro has already sounded an alarm - Njei Moses Timah (njemotim) - In March 2007 (just as he was recovering from multiple intestinal surgery) Fidel Castro started publishing a series of articles in Granma Newspaper under the caption "Reflections of President Fidel Castro." The most recurrent issue in most of those articles has been his vehement opposition to the idea of using food to produce fuel for use in automobiles and other machines. In what he referred to as "the internationalization of genocide," Castro argues that more than 3 billion vulnerable people in the developing countries will suffer from some sort of food crisis as "biofuel" industries compete for grain with poor hungry people. The Financial Times published an article on May 23 in which it predicted that retail food prices were heading for their biggest annual increase in 30 years. "Prices have soared as the expanding biofuels industry, climate change and the growing prosperity of nations such as India and China push up costs of farm commodities including wheat, corn, milk and oils. Food companies have started passing on these increases to consumers, but the prospect of sustained commodity price rises means the industry's profits could be hit as it is forced to absorb the higher costs itself," wrote the Financial Times. Al Gore to Jon Stewart: "Facts Play Less of a Role in the Way we Make Decisions" - By Noel Sheppard - The Global Warmingist-in-Chief was Jon Stewart's guest on "The Daily Show" Thursday evening. And, right out of the starting blocks, soon-to-be-Dr. Al Gore made a statement that marvelously epitomized his career: (05/26/07)

I Wonder How These Guys Plan to Stop "Global Warming Hysteria" As the Climate Continues To Visibly and Rapidly Decay - By Bruce Sterling - Stop the Al Gore and United Nations Climate of Fear Campaign! - n the wake of Al Gore's cross-country, jet-fuel burning campaign to scare the American people about the "grave danger" of man-made global warming, some on Capitol Hill are taking advantage of the climate of fear he and his buddies at the United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change have created. California Rep. Henry Waxman is proposing the "Safe Climate Act" which would enact an economically harmful "cap and trade" system. Under his plan, the federal government would place Draconian emissions restrictions on companies that emit carbon. There are also three other draft bills in the House that have similar economically harmful provisions. (05/26/07)

Earth is warming, but are we to blame? - A recent CBC story said eating red meat is a major contributor to global warming, because of the methane gas emitted when cows pass gas. One contributor to the program equated bovine flatulence with air pollution created by SUVs, and advocated a vegetarian diet for all earthlings. Only at the end of the program was it revealed the person was a vegan. I equate global-warming fanatics with the more extreme members of the anti-tobacco lobby - people who seem to enjoy bullying people who smoke. (05/26/07)

AFP News brief : US objects to G8 global warming declaration - The United States has raised new serious objections to a proposed global warming declaration prepared by Germany for next month's Group of Eight summit, a newspaper reported Saturday. Citing documents obtained by The Washington Post, the report said officials representing the administration of President George W. Bush rejected the idea of setting mandatory emissions targets as well as language calling for G8 nations to raise overall energy efficiencies by 20 percent by 2020. (05/26/07)

Anyone have a bridge for sale?
Filipino invention stops global warming - A Filipino invention may yet be the answer to stop global warming. Roberto V. Celis, 74, said it took him 14 years to develop his invention called "Hydrogasifier" using water as supplemental fuel for all kinds of internal combustion engines that use gasoline, diesel, natural gas, hybrid or bio-fuel, eliminating deadly pollutants from spreading into the atmosphere. "It utilizes the hot exhaust gases from the engine to dissociate water into hydrogen and oxygen gases that are immediately introduced into the combustion chamber to completely burn the fuel," Celis said in an exclusive interview with the Philippines News Agency in his shop in Marikina City. (05/26/07)

Drunk on ethanol - By Colin A. Carter/Henry I. Miller - From preschool to planning funerals, green is in. Very in. But green policies and decisions need to be based on more than a vague desire to save the planet. The principles of the natural sciences and economics must play an essential role -- a part of policymaking that often eludes politicians. (05/25/07)

Jessica Simpson a Global Warming Groupie: After Leonardo DiCaprio? - By Susan Hatch - Jessica Simpson like her men green. She is currently dating (or not) "light green" global warming advocate John Mayer and now she reportedly perused Leonardo DiCaprio, who debuted his advocacy film '11th Hour' at Cannes. Does global warming heat up Jessica? At an exclusive party on a private yacht in Cannes, Jessica Simpson reportedly "spent the whole night following Leonardo DiCaprio around like a lost puppy," a source tells Page Six. (05/25/07)

A session to forget - By John McClaughry - A very liberal Legislature balanced the budget, offered a desperate and embarrassing tax-grabbing spectacle to combat the alleged menace of global warming, did little to stem the rise in education costs and failed to do anything to improve the economic prospects of Vermonters. (05/25/07)

JENNIFER MAROHASY : Cooling heels on global warming - While some of the headlines announcing the release of its first summary in February suggested the end of the world was nigh, the report was actually fairly undramatic. It concluded the world has warmed by 0.74C over the past 100 years and that while temperatures at the Arctic have increased at almost twice the global average there has been no warming at all at the Antarctic. That's right. No global warming at the South Pole. Furthermore, while Al Gore predicted a six-metre rise in sea level in his documentary, An Inconvenient Truth , the inconvenient truth in the February summary from the IPCC was that sea levels are unlikely to rise by more than 59cm by 2099. (05/25/07)

Good news: Paramount talking with director about "An Inconvenient Truth 2" - By Allahpundit - At this rate, in a few years high-school curricula will consist entirely of Al Gore movies. Yes folks, An Inconvenient Truth Part 2 is on the way. It doesn't mention whether former presidential candidate (and, many would argue, rightful winner) Al Gore will be involved again, but I would imagine he'd have to be. According to the Truth's director, Davis Guggenheim, "I'm meeting with Paramount next week to talk about a sequel to Inconvenient Truth. Too early to talk about details." Considering the extremely low-key nature of the original, it was churned out in a mere five months, and that quick turnaround could mean we'll see the sequel in time for the 2008 presidential election. Wasn't the first one about the apocalyptic consequences if man continues to pursue the folly of driving SUVs? What's left for the sequel, some sort of Mad Max scenario where the Goracle battles mutants weaned on genetically modified food? (05/254/07)

Satire
Mary Cheney became pregnant by parthenogenesis; global warming to blame? - Frostbite Falls (Spoof News) Mary Cheney, daughter of Vice President Dick Cheney, gave birth today to an 8 and a half pound baby boy. "This has been an fascinating gestation period," said Dr. Bob Laub, head of obstetrics and gynecology at Millhouse Nixon Hospital in Frostbite Falls, Montana, where Mary and her partner Heather Poe live. Where's Chicken Little now? - There are ominous signs that the Earth's weather patterns have begun to change dramatically and that these changes may portend a drastic decline in food production - with serious political implications for just about every nation on earth. The drop in food production could begin soon, perhaps only 10 years from now. While this may seem like today's headlines, or a recent Al Gore speech, it's actually from a 1975 article in Newsweek magazine. Thirty years ago, the same scientific community, which is now going bonkers over global warming, was hyping a possible ice age. Had they been able to generate as much interest in the '70s as we see today, perhaps a younger and thinner Al Gore would have won an Oscar sooner for his "An Inconvenient Truth." Only it would have been about global cooling. Trying to logically discuss this issue in our society today is next to impossible, especially when so many view almost everything as a worst-case scenario. What if a tidal wave hits California? What if an asteroid hits us, or what if the terrorists get weapons of mass destruction? (05/24/07)

'Chicken Littles' lack proof about global warming - According to the US Department of Energy, the total worldwide carbon dioxide emissions in 2004 were 27 billion metric tons. (05/24/07)

Green group questions tree planting as global warming fix - The Total Environment Centre has criticised the practice of planting trees to address global warming problems. In a new report, the group says planting trees should be used as a last resort in carbon offset projects. (05/24/07)

Carbon offsets just 'guilt-free pollution' - A report from a leading green group says trees planted to cut greenhouse pollution will not start to work for decades and carbon offset schemes are simply "guilt-free pollution". The Total Environment Centre says planting trees should only be used as a last resort in carbon offset projects. Director Jeff Angel says a tree planted today will only begin to absorb carbon dioxide in decades to come. (05/24/07)

Global warming is misinformation - A letter from Bob Hendricks - I would encourage Town Crier columnist Laura Hagler ("It's not easy being green," May 12) to educate herself more on the so-called global warming issue. A propaganda film put out by a failed presidential candidate with no background in environmental issues might not be the best starting point for an education. In the 1970s, the same crowd who is crowing about global warming was shrieking about a pending ice age. It was covered extensively in Newsweek magazine in April 1975. The purpose of this commentary is not to disparage Hagler, but to uncover and discuss other sources of information on the subject. (05/23/07)

Global warming sparks political debate in Clarkstown - By AMISHA PADNANI - CLARKSTOWN - Greenhouse gas emissions are at the root of a recent political disagreement among town officials. The dissent centers on a recent vote by the Town Board to become a member of the International Council for Local Environmental Initiatives, an association of local governments that commit to preserving the environment. (05/23/07)

Letter: Not all glaciers shrinking due to global warming - By Ernie Ley, St. Cloud - We are told that glaciers all over the world are shrinking due to global warming. Glaciers expand and contract all the time, and while some glaciers are shrinking at present, others are growing. In New Zealand, for instance, the Franz Josef and Fox glaciers are advancing. According to a Jan. 21 report in The Press published in New Zealand, "Franz Josef and the Fox had advanced hundreds of meters in the past year." Meanwhile in India, the Hindustan Times reported on Feb. 11 that glaciers in the Himalayas appear stable, contrary to earlier reports that claimed that Himalayan glaciers were retreating more than 30 feet per year. Citing the work of scientist V.K. Raina, the Indian paper noted "that out of 9,575 glaciers in India to date, research has been conducted on only about 50." The Hindustan Times went on to say, "Nearly 200 years of data has shown that nothing abnormal has occurred in any of these glaciers." Why the discrepancy with earlier reports about massive melting in the Himalayas? "Claims of global warming causing glacial melt in the Himalayas are based on wrong assumptions," Raina told the Hindustan Times, proving once again that climate change is not as cut and dried as proponents of global warming claim. (05/23/07)

Fred Flintstone didn't drive a gas guzzler... - By Ruth Lea - Has the old left discovered 'global warming' following the collapse of Communism simply to further their objectives of controlling people's lives and undermining capitalism? Controlling climate change is now one of the major political issues of the day - and a profoundly misguided one at that. We're being told individuals can make a difference, that we should switch from ordinary light-bulbs to energy-savers. But face it, this will make little if any difference - especially for developing countries. (05/23/07)

This is what we deserve since we elected Moonbeam for AG. How soon we forget...
Brown asks EPA for global warming waiver - California Attorney General Jerry Brown appealed Tuesday to the Environmental Protection Agency for a waiver from the Clean Air Act so that it and 11 other states can impose more stringent rules on motor vehicle emissions than permitted by federal regulations in an effort to combat global warming. "This is bigger than Iraq," Brown told the largely friendly panel, headed by Sen. Barbara Boxer, a fellow California Democrat. "It is bigger than immigration. It's not tomorrow but it's coming around. The stakes have never been higher." (05/23/07)

One more reason not to nominate him...
McCain Sides With Leading Dems on Global Warming - Nathan Burchfiel - (CNSNews.com) - A panel discussion on global climate change Tuesday found Sen. John McCain's (R-Ariz.) staff agreeing with representatives for the leading Democratic presidential contenders. A cap-and-trade system for carbon emissions, they agreed, is the most promising solution to "global warming." (05/23/07)

Outside View: Global warming hysteria - By Loren B. Thompson - ARLIINGTON, VA, United States (UPI) -- Former Washington Post publisher Philip Graham described journalism as the 'first rough draft of history.' Perhaps rough draft of hysteria would be a better phrase to use in describing some of the overheated reporting about global warming that has appeared recently. (05/22/07)

Another hysterics reply - By Keith Ellis - The Al Gore film 'An Inconvenient Truth' convinced me that global warming is an urgent problem. I'll be delighted to find out I've been misled, but will keep planting trees just in case. Well, there's no law against being stupid. (05/22/07)

Global Overheating - By Jay D. Homnick - I'm thinking this line comes from Stephen Wright: "Why do people park on the driveway and drive on the parkway?" A recent variation on this inversion occurred with the state visits of Britain's dignitaries. The Queen came to Washington and stayed at Blair House. Then Blair came to Washington and stayed in the Queen's Room in the White House. (05/22/07)

Senator Says Global Warming Pact Could Hurt Utah's Economy - (KSL News) Governor Jon Huntsman has signed a green initiative to fight global warming, but Utah's industry leaders say the pact could hurt the state's economy. (05/22/07)

The $8-billion global-warming swindle - Before rushing into a climate-change panic, we need a real public debate - Paul MacRae, Times Colonist - For a scientific (as opposed to political) perspective, here's what University of California archeologist Brian Fagan has to say about global warming: "About 15,000 years ago, the ice sheets began to melt in earnest. The dramatic environmental changes associated with this warm-up make the climactic changes predicted by doomsday-sayers for the next millennium look puny in comparison." (05/22/07)

Carell's "Almighty" Spin-Off Spins Green Marketing - The "Almighty Forest," gives users an opportunity to take real action towards slowing the effects of global warming. For $5, visitors can plant a virtual tree, which will land their name in the credits of "Evan Almighty" and help the conservation fund plant real trees and support the good work they do to protect the environment. Cheng Yen: Global warming effects "result from the mind" - The global warming effects impacting all mankind are "actually the effects of the human mind and its insatiable desires," a lecturer quoted Master Cheng Yen, founder of the Buddhist Compassionate Relief Tzu Chi Foundation, as saying yesterday. In a special report presented at a monthly meeting of the Presidential Office, Ho Jih-sheng, spokesman for the foundation, said that, as Master Cheng Yen has often preached to her disciples, natural disasters are rooted in man-made misfortunes, or the "collective karma" of mankind. People numb to climate change alarm - By Simon Lauder - MARK COLVIN: When it comes to climate change it seems that people may have become numb to the language of alarm. Scientific reports and media stories have convinced most people that global warming is a huge problem, but there's evidence today that they don't do much about it. Global Warming Update - Did you see the story out of Canada, this kid has finally gone public. He's been forced to watch "An Inconvenient Truth" four times at school. He's a high school student. "Why am I having to watch this four times?" He had to watch the movie four times. It's happening all over the northern hemisphere, propagandizing kids. "Experts Predict Scorching Summer." (05/21/07)

Laurie David Uses Greensburg Tornado Disaster to Further Global Warming Alarmism - By Noel Sheppard - I'm not sure which is worse: using the Greensburg, Kansas, tornado disaster from last month to bash President Bush and the war in Iraq, or using it to further global warming alarmism. Regardless of the answer, one of soon-to-be-Dr. Al Gore's primary sycophants, Laurie David, actually wrote an article for the Huffington Post Sunday tying the devastation to this small town to climate change and green principles. Are Real Costs of Dealing With Climate Change Being Hidden From the Public? - By Noel Sheppard - As Al Gore and his band of not so merry global warming alarmists in buses and in the press try to convince Americans that they need to alter behaviors in order to save the planet, an inconvenient truth is being cynically withheld: this is going to cost a lot of money. Of course, one of the delicious hypocrisies is that these are the same people who decry the current economic boom as only helping the rich, and state regularly and fervently that the poor and middle-class are being left behind. At the same time, such mid- to lower-level wage earners should be saddled with exorbitant additional expenses to shelter them from a wolf that might never come knocking at their doors. Makes sense, right? (05/21/07)

Leonardo DiCaprio Fumes at Hypocrisy Charge on Global Warming - By Brenda Davis - The earth can be saved if we listen to Leonardo DiCaprio. He has worshipped at the feet of Al Gore on the global warming issue and presents a new film designed to 'scare' folks into believing that they are at fault for global warming. But Leo is not at fault. Just ask him, but be careful, he gets testy when quizzed on the way he lives his life. (05/20/07)

Satire? When it comes to Hansen, you never know...
Global Warming Spawns New Crisis: Spatial Warming - Global warming experts have discovered a new problem associated with the coming catastrophe. Top NASA scientist James E. Hansen points to a growing concern over spatial warming. Studies have shown recently that various parts of space near earth appear to be heating up. Recent measurements show an increase from an average of 0.01 Kelvins to 0.03 Kelvins, a 300% increase. Hansen suggested that some of this may result from global warming, as an increased amount of heat from the earth leaks into space. Others point to a surge in solar activity, while another group of scientists think there has been a growing concentration of carbon dioxide getting into outer space. (05/20/07)

Leonardo DiCaprio Film Claims Global Warming Could Cause Human Extinction - By Noel Sheppard - Honestly, the arrogance of some Hollywood liberals knows no bounds. As they live in their million dollar mansions, and jet-set around the world in a manner that 99.99 percent of the population can't fathom, these folks have the gall to tell others how they should alter their lives for the benefit of the planet. The most recent example is Leonardo DiCaprio, the 32-year-old actor that has absolutely no formal training in geology, climatology, meteorology, or anything in any way related to complex earth sciences. Robert Who? Global Warming Skeptic CEO Virtually Ignored - By Tom Blumer - Kimberley Strassel's OpinionJournal.com column about coal-mine operator Robert E. Murray of Murray Energy is important on a number of levels. You haven't heard of Robert E. Murray? That's not surprising. If there were an open dialog instead of continual blather about "settled science" when it comes to supposedly human-induced "climate change" and "global warming" (two concepts I like to collectively refer to as "globaloney"), Murray would have visibility. But, as Strassel writes, a different "climate," the political one, appears to be keeping him largely out of the public eye, despite his best efforts to break through. (05/20/07)

Australian Magazine Editor Slams Al Gore's "Live Earth" Concerts - By Noel Sheppard - Have you noticed that most of the articles you see that are skeptical about man's role in climate change come from foreign publications based in countries like Great Britain, Australia, New Zealand, and Canada? Why do you think that is? Are the American press too emotionally attached to the issue -- and, in particular, the chief spokesman, soon-to-be-Dr. Al Gore -- to even consider the possibility that the debate isn't over, and that their role as journalists is supposed to be to further discussion rather than squelch it? 19 per cent of India's global warming emissions from large dams, says study - Gargi Parsai - Globally large dams contribute to 24 per cent of methane emissions. In a year, emissions from India's large dams could be around 33.5 million tonnes. The study has come too late to be included in the recent reports from the IPCC. NEW DELHI: Latest scientific estimates show that large dams in India are responsible for about a fifth of the countries' total global warming impact. (05/19/07)

Global warming debunked - By Andrew Swallow - Climate change will be considered a joke in five years time, meteorologist Augie Auer told the annual meeting of Mid Canterbury Federated Farmers in Ashburton this week. Man's contribution to the greenhouse gases was so small we couldn't change the climate if we tried, he maintained. "We're all going to survive this. It's all going to be a joke in five years," he said. (05/19/07)

Gosh, what will Tipper think? Of course, Time magazine has done its own falling in and out of love with global warming -- jumping on the hype this year but touting global cooling hysteria a few short decades ago. Nevermind, they fired that guy, it's all about warming now -- and Al Gore. Gotta love Al Gore. (05/18/07)

Global Warming Could Be Offset Until 2080s By Urban Green Spaces, UK - Scientists looking at the effect global warming will have on our major cities say a modest increase in the number of urban parks and street trees could offset decades of predicted temperature rises. The University of Manchester study has calculated that a mere 10% increase in the amount of green space in built-up centres would reduce urban surface temperatures by as much as 4°C. Really? Wx Expert: People Not To Blame For Global Warming - (CBS4) MIAMI Dr.William Gray is widely respected in the scientific community. He is a professor in the department of atmospheric science at Colorado State University and says it's much too early to blame people for global warming. R Ravimohan: Global warming is part of evolution - Preparing to live in a warmer earth is as important, if not more important, as trying to cool it down. There has been a strident expression of concern on global warming in recent months. Good, well-researched and articulated studies have sought to establish that the globe we live in is getting warmer. These studies also have highlighted various kinds of harm that will befall the human race if we do not act to reverse the warming process. These are important messages that must be heeded, and acted upon. However, a global consensus on the need to act and on what that action should be is lacking. More seriously, there is no sign as yet of any convergence and willingness on the part of both the developed and the developing world to act to address this issue. (05/18/07)

Mitt Romney Spars With John McCain Over Global Warming - Mitt Romney today challenged John McCain to a one-on-one debate over global warming. The two candidates have starkly different positions on the issue. Romney supports global warming, arguing that northern places like his current state of Massachusetts, as well as Michigan and Utah, where he has deep connections, benefit from a warmer environment. Pitted against Romney is John McCain, from Arizona, a state that gets, as he puts it, "pretty damn hot" in the summer. McCain also is a survivor of skin cancer, and is generally thought to take this issue quite personally. A few days ago, McCain referred to Romney as "Oven Mitt" when the issue arose. (05/17/07)

Another State Climatologist Bashes Al Gore and Global Warming Alarmism - By Noel Sheppard - Do you hear that hissing sound? That's the balloon that soon-to-be-Dr. Al Gore and his band of not so merry alarmists have floated concerning a scientific consensus on man's role in global warming losing air. Commentary: Al Gore main problem with global warming - By David Hayford - The only topic that stirs more passion and vitriol than George Bush these days is GLOBAL WARMING. Letters to the editor on the subject contain gratuitous insults with few facts. That is, I believe, because the vast majority of us are totally ignorant of any scientific facts on the subject. I shall present my views without vitriol or insults, nor any pretense of scientific knowledge. Belief in global warming is a lot like belief in God - a lot of faith is required. (05/17/07)

Oppressors of global warming - On the "The News Hour with Jim Lehrer'' recently, a global-warming expert was discussing how cap-and-trade agreements might work, and while she was perfectly pleasant, there was something in her cool, technocratic description that made me feel I might be glimpsing a terribly oppressive future. The scheme she spoke of is often presented as a free-market means of curtailing fossil-fuel consumption, but listen carefully and you realize it would instead be a vast bureaucratic arrangement controlling significant operations of whole industries. List of Global Warming Skeptics Grows, Media Couldn't Care Less - By Noel Sheppard - While global warming alarmists like soon-to-be-Dr. Al Gore and his band of not so merry sycophants continue talking about a scientific consensus concerning man's role in "climate change," the list of scientists that have grown skeptical of this nexus continues to grow. Unfortunately, a media obsessed with advancing hysteria on the subject refuse to acknowledge the existence of such folks as they continue to pound the table about the imminent doom to the planet. State climatologist not jumping on global warming bandwagon - By Joey Vaughan - Many people who saw "An Inconvenient Truth," a global warming documentary featuring Al Gore, immediately became very concerned about global climate change and impending weather disasters. Energy Nonsense : Bush's ethanol plan is almost entirely bad. - By Jerry Taylor - President Bush's ability to pull-off impressive political sleights of hand was on full display this week. As some may recall, the Supreme Court recently found that the EPA has the legal authority to regulate greenhouse gases under the Clean Air Act without any further act of Congress. Moreover, the Court argued that, unless the agency were to find that greenhouse gas emissions cause no substantial injury to human health or the environment, the EPA must go forward and do exactly that. Climate Momentum Shifting: Prominent Scientists Reverse Belief in Man-made Global Warming - Now Skeptics - Growing Number of Scientists Convert to Skeptics After Reviewing New Research - By Marc Morano - Following the U.S. Senate's vote today on a global warming measure (see today's AP article: Senate Defeats Climate Change Measure,) it is an opportune time to examine the recent and quite remarkable momentum shift taking place in climate science. Many former believers in catastrophic man-made global warming have recently reversed themselves and are now climate skeptics. Runaway Models - Climate Change: It turns out that the global warming theorists have missed on another of their predictions. Shouldn't that be a deeply harmful, if not fatal, blow to the credibility of their argument? James Hansen, the NASA scientist who is largely responsible for the global warming hysteria, knows as well as anyone that general circulation models spin out projections that are not reflected in the real world. His model predicted a 0.45 degree Celsius (0.81 degree Fahrenheit) rise in global temperature between 1988 and 1997. But it was off by a factor of four. The United Nations' Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change records show that ground-based temperatures had increased by only 0.11 degree Celsius. Hansen's projection didn't fare well when compared with other measurements, either. In fact, it looks downright silly. (05/15/07)

Global Warming Comes to Neptune - By Matthew Sheffield - Watching the global warming alarmists it's amazing to see how much they completely discount the sun's role in determining the earth's temperature. It's something that can be readily observed simply by stepping outside during the day and at night. Yet, we almost never hear the sun mentioned by Al Gore and friends. This is despite the fact that astronomy continues to prove that the sun has an influence on its planets temperatures and is likely to be responsible for observable warming of the earth. First came the news that Mars is getting warmer, now comes the news that Neptune is also experiencing global warming: (05/15/07)

'Early Show' Uses Feature Story to Lobby Congress on Global Warming Alarmism - By Justin McCarthy - "Early Show's" cheery weatherman Dave Price used his forum to feature Dan Lewis, Starbucks regional marketing manager, and Matt Petersen, the CEO of, Global Green USA, a left wing environmental group. While much of the story focused on what individuals can do to save the planet, Petersen noted that "global warming is a serious issue, and we need our leaders in Washington to act, our corporate leaders to act." Petersen also encouraged the viewers to "send a message to Washington" about what viewers "think they should be doing about global warming." (05/15/07)

Soil's contribution to global warming - The University of Melbourne - Greenhouse gases are not only emitted by industry, cars or households. In addition to carbon dioxide, other greenhouse gases are emitted by soils as part of the natural cycling of nutrients and decomposition. These so called non-CO2 greenhouse gases are more potent than carbon dioxide with regard to global warming, and already make up one quarter of Australia's greenhouse gas emissions. (05/15/07)

Teachers score in Surrey battle over Gore's Inconvenient Truth - Suzanne Fournier, The Province - Surrey students will be allowed to see Al Gore's film on climate change, even though trustee Heather Stilwell is demanding that a film slamming Gore's evidence be shown as well. Global Warming shows human gene pool compromise from Manipulative Extraterrestrial Consciousnesses - By David Stein - It is apparent that the intelligences that are directing humanity into its course of self-destruction undoubtedly view Earth as an "alien planet" which is to be exploited to its destruction, before moving onto other planets, which can also be exploited. Therefore, a critical observer who appreciates that Extraterrestrials have had contact with humanity over its course of development on planet Earth can logically conclude the following. Humans who act inconsistent with a self-preservation context on Earth, have either been manipulated at the genetic level, or are being manipulated by beings who if human in appearance, have been genetically compromised in a manner in which the vital self-preservation context of living species on our planet Earth has been somehow disabled or replaced. Did the U.N.'s IPCC Report Exaggerate CO2 Increases to Hype Global Warming? - By Noel Sheppard - Those who have been following the manmade global warming debate are well aware that every time the United Nation's Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change issues another dire pronouncement, the media report the bad news every hour on the hour. However, what if a new scientific study concluded that the IPCC cherry-picked data concerning CO2 levels in the past in order to make it look like today's levels are out of the ordinary. Would the media report that? Well, an article written by scientists Dr. Tim Ball and Tom Harris of the Natural Resources Stewardship Project was published on Monday making exact this claim. (05/14/07)

New findings indicate today's greenhouse gas levels not unusual - By Dr. Tim Ball and Tom Harris - "Stopping climate change" may be all the rage with celebrities and environmental lobbyists, but fortunately for the rest of us, the scare's scientific foundation is rapidly disintegrating. One of the fundamental pillars of the hypothesis that humanity is causing dangerous climate change is the belief that levels of carbon dioxide (CO2), the greenhouse gas of concern in countries such as Canada, have been rising steadily since the start of the industrial revolution. But what if CO2 levels have not increased? How could our emissions of this otherwise benign gas then have anything to do with the past century's modest warming? (05/14/07)

Al Gore's Global Warming 'Live Earth' Music Events Ripped by Geldof - By Jackson Simpson - Al Gore is no Bob Geldof. Especially in Geldof's eyes. The organizer of Live Aid and Live 8 benefit concerts has basically ripped into the failed presidential candidate and Global Warming alarmist saying the Live Earth music events Al Gore is putting together this summer lack a specific goal, according to a Dutch newspaper report Saturday. In a plan that many have already criticized, the Live Earth concerts will be held in cities around the world on July 7, with proceeds funding a yet-to-be-named foundation to combat climate change, under Gore's direction. In other words, hand money to Al Gore and he will decide what to do with it later. But that's not the reason he is feeling the wrath of the former Boomtown Rats' frontman. (05/13/07)

The coming cool - By David Warren, The Ottawa Citizen - A few months ago, I wrote a series of unflattering columns on current trends among the Gaia worshippers. The last of these opened, "The more I think about 'global warming,' in light of the most recent United Nations report, the more confident I become in averring that it is a fraud, a political stunt, a criminal imposture, that every intelligent journalist should be helping to expose." (05/13/07)

OK; how many of you enviros have lawns? Al? Sheryl? Laurie?
Lawns affect warming - The question: When is a lawn not a lawn? The answer: When it is a landscape. Grass as a source of carbon emissions? Apparently it is, because the booklet's 10 suggestions for eco-friendly gardening practices includes this: Trees and shrubs utilize carbon dioxide in photosynthesis and sequester carbon for years, decades, and for a century in some species. Lawns only sequester the carbon compounds they produce for a few weeks at the most. (05/13/07)

Global warming pecans - By Colin McNickle - The global warming alarmist industry has turned so wacko that even "intellectual vapidity" is too weak a phrase to describe it. And never have so many been so totally buffaloed by the ecocrats' redefining of "political science." (05/13/07)

Stick to the science on global warming - Regarding "Climate change merits serious talk, not hype" (Opinions, Wednesday): Robert Robb's column about global warming is where the thinking on the subject should be. It is a topic for the scientific community to continue studying, not one to exaggerate and exploit for profit, the way a former vice president is doing. The "Chicken Little" scientists and their political cronies who spread fear through their so-called informed speculation - Joseph Fraher,Gold Canyon (05/13/07)

Al Gore Protested by 'Environmental Militants' in Argentina, Media Mum - By Noel Sheppard - When President Bush receives protests as he travels abroad, it's front-page headline news. Yet, when former Vice President Al Gore is so protested, the media couldn't care less. Although the Associated Press did report Gore's visit to Buenos Aires, Argentina, to speak at a biofuels conference Friday, virtually no American media outlet picked up the story: As Gore spoke, outside the hotel demonstrators on bicycles and wearing surgical masks chanted slogans against multinational agribusinesses, saying the biofuel boom will cause deforestation and turn arable land into deserts. Sadly, there wasn't a lot of details in this piece about the actual protests. Thankfully, I received the following La Nacion article by e-mail yesterday with a translation that offered a lot more insights into the matter: (05/12/07)

Hot Air, Cold Cash : Who are the Merchants of Fear? - By ALEXANDER COCKBURN - No response is more predictable than the reflexive squawk of the Greenhouse fearmongers that anyone questioning their claims is in the pay of the energy companies. A second, equally predictable retort contrasts the ever-diminishing number of agnostics to the growing legions of scientists now born again to the "truth" that anthropogenic CO2 is responsible for the earth's warming trend, the melting of the icecaps, the rising of the seas, the increase in hurricanes, the decline in penguin fertility and other horrors too numerous for individual citation. (05/12/07)

Global warming will soon put incandescents in the dark - NEW YORK - The light bulb, the symbol of bright ideas, doesn't look like such a great idea anymore, as lawmakers in the United States and abroad are talking about banning the century-old technology because of its contribution to global warming. But what comes next? Compact fluorescent bulbs are the only real alternative right now, but "bulbs" that use light-emitting diodes, or LEDs, are quickly emerging as a challenger. LEDs, which are small chips usually encased in a glass dome the size of a matchstick head, have been in use in electronics for decades to indicate, for example, whether a VCR is on or off. The Spy Who Went Into The Heat - By John J. Miller - Something tells me that when it comes to predicting the weather, intelligence agencies should be more concerned with mushroom clouds over American cities than icebergs near Greenland. (05/12/07)

Study: 'Global Warming' Making Northern Hemisphere Greener - By: James M. Taylor - Rising carbon dioxide levels in the atmosphere, together with moderately warming temperatures, have caused a substantial greening of the Northern Hemisphere. That's according to Craig Idso, founder and former president of the Center for the Study of Carbon Dioxide and Global Change, reporting in the March 14 issue of CO2 Science. (05/12/07)

I THINK I OWE THE GREENIES AN APOLOGY - Ever since I first started doing research into environmentalism over 30 years ago, it has seemed obvious to me that they are simply a revival of mankind's most primitive religion - nature worship. Awe before nature is in fact probably so primitive and goes back so far that it has to an extent been hardwired into us. (05/12/07)

Global Warming Not Major Cause of Storms - By Vanessa Rozier - According to experts like William M. Gray and Phil Klotzbach, research associates in the Department of Atmospheric Science at Colorado State University, it is not global warming, but "changes in ocean salinity" that can be blamed for the surge in natural disasters in the United States. (05/12/07)

A Student's Opinion on Global Warming - My hypothesis: Global warming is real; however, so is global cooling. Some areas will heat up dramatically and some will cool down exponentially. (05/12/07)

Bad Climate "Science" The ideology goes in before the science goes on. - By Joel Schwartz - Assume that human greenhouse-gas emissions are causing dangerous changes in the Earth's climate. What should we do about it? Public debate on climate change has focused almost solely on requiring large reductions in fossil-fuel energy consumption. Enter the journal Nature with a new feature article on another potential means of dealing with climate change. (05/11/07)

Global warming : 'scare mongering' - Ronald Reagan has been quoted as saying, "Facts are very stubborn things." And indeed, they are. Here are a few stubborn facts about global warming. It is fact that our planet is warming. It started warming around 1850 and warmed a little over one degree Fahrenheit between 1850 and 1940. Then, there was a slight cooling between 1940 and 1970. It has continued warming since 1970. It is fact that the planet goes through cycles of cooling and warming, and has been doing so for thousands of years. There have been previous warm periods in history, most notably around 900 A.D. until after 1300 A.D., when the Danes had farms in Greenland, and during the height of the Roman Empire from about 200 B.C. to 600 A.D. It is fact that the computer models that are being used to predict long-range global warming fail when they are applied to historic past warming periods. If a computer model cannot reconstruct the past, how can it be relied on to predict the future? (05/11/07)

CNN's Situation Room Asks 'What If the World Took Climate Change Seriously?' - By Matthew Balan - The mainstream media's promotion of climate change hype continues unfettered. A segment on Thursday's "The Situation Room" wholeheartedly embraced the theory of human-caused global warming, and the International Panel on Climate Change's recent "action plan" to do something about it. (05/11/07)

Unmasking Global Warming: The Case of Mikhail Gorbachev - By Vasko Kohlmayer - The most remarkable aspect of the man-made global warming claim is the lack of solid scientific evidence for it. Yet there are those whose apparent goal it is to advance this theory at all costs. Blatant in their disregard of the facts, they try to convince as many as would believe of the real nature of this alleged danger. But since this activism does not rest on scientific evidence or hard facts, it must be driven by motives other than those publicly stated. This much at least should be obvious, but sadly far too many people have failed to make this inference. Blinded by fear, they have not considered the possibility that those fanning the flames of hysteria may harbor ulterior motives. (05/11/07)

What Kindergartners Think of Global Warming - I have recently found myself in the unexpected and rather wonderful position of kindergarten science teacher at a Manhattan independent school. The kids are fascinated by and thirsty for science, and were riveted by our unit on color, light, and shadow that was ongoing when I stepped in. However, no lesson I have taught yet galvanized their passion and attention like this week's impromptu discussions on global warming. (05/11/07)

Scientists Urge Gore to Cool His Global Warming Rhetoric - By Bonner R. Cohen - While basking in the afterglow of having his movie, An Inconvenient Truth, awarded an Oscar, former vice president Al Gore is finding his rhetorical flourishes on the subject of global warming aren't always welcome, even among his supporters in the scientific community. (05/11/07)

Governor all but threatens global warming veto - MONTPELIER, Vt. - Gov. Jim Douglas all but threatened to veto a global climate change compromise bill on Thursday, decrying a tax that would fund it and the bureaucracy that he says it would create. (05/11/07)

More good news for lawyers
A changing climate - Birmingham Business Journal - By Ty West - With global warming and climate change among the hot topics of the day and the potential of tightened emissions regulations from the Environmental Protection Agency, some environmental lawyers see opportunity on the horizon. That's because local experts say that changes in environmental law and regulations could not only lead to more casework and litigation but could also play a major role in how many manufacturers do business. A new level of absurdity has been reached
Global warming heats up debate over Arctic sovereignty, foreign threats - Sheldon Alberts, - WASHINGTON - A group of retired American generals and admirals has warned Congress the U.S. faces a dire threat to its national security from global warming - and flagged Canada's claim to Arctic sovereignty as a future flashpoint between the two longstanding allies. (05/11/07)

Shadegg remarks show tough time for House panel on global warming - Mike Madden - WASHINGTON - The hearing was almost over, but Rep. John Shadegg was just getting started. The Republican from Arizona took the microphone at a recent hearing of the new House Select Committee on Energy Independence and Global Warming and proceeded to ignore the witnesses testifying on how climate change could affect the insurance business. Good! (05/11/07)

Global Warming Suspicions and Confusions - By Justin Podur - In recent years, a number of important contributions have influenced the growing debate on global warming. Paul Baer and Tom Athanasiou's book, Dead Heat, from a few years ago, was excellent. Noam Chomsky's latest book, Failed States, mentions global warming as one of the three more urgent problems humanity faces (the others being war and the lack of democratic institutions to deal with problems). George Monbiot's new book, Heat, provides a workable set of proposals for stabilizing the climate without draconian sacrifice (except commercial flight). (05/11/07)

From the JunkMan
Junk Science: Climate-Controlled Classroom? - By Steven Milloy - Should schools teach the global warming controversy by showing students only Al Gore's alarmist movie? Roger Williams University just learned the answer to that question the hard way. (05/11/07)

ERAU professor seeks balance in global warming debate - By MARK HARPER - DAYTONA BEACH - Nick Shipley, an Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University freshman, had just spent a week of classes watching two films with polar-opposite conclusions about global warming. "After watching 'An Inconvenient Truth,' I was relatively convinced," Shipley said one day last month in class. "(Al Gore) did a good job in presenting his points very methodically one after the other. They all build up to essentially prove his point. "After watching 'The Great Global Warming Swindle,' my thinking completely changed," he said. "I kind of did a complete flip-flop." (05/10/07)

The Greenpeace in the chicken coop (from the Politics Blog) - Here's a little insight into how the "global consensus" on climate change is formed. The Times of London reports that "tackling global warming need not cost the Earth, a panel of UN scientists said today. In the third in a series of reports, the IPCC said that keeping the rise in temperatures to within 2 degrees C would cost only 0.12 per cent of annual gross domestic product if governments exploited new technologies to cut greenhouse gas emissions." So who authored this rosy, "scientific" scenario? "It's a low premium to pay to reduce the risk of major climate damage," Bill Hare, a Greenpeace adviser who co-authored the report, told Reuters news agency after the culmination of marathon negotiations. That's right - Greenpeace. One of the world's leading proponents of climate change. Would the MSM declare a report written by Exxon-Mobil to be the definitive report on global warming? Needless to say, Greenpeace's - er, the IPCC's - conclusion is nonsense. As a Wharton Business School of Economic study found, implementing Kyoto would cost the US about 2.3% of its GDP - or about 20 times 0.12%. And that's just to comply with Kyoto, which doesn't come close to lowering emissions by the 85% that the IPCC claims is required to keep temperature increases below 2C. (05/10/07)

Weather Expert: Sub-tropical Storms Being Named to Fuel Global Warming Alarmism - By Noel Sheppard - For weather watchers, the name Joe Sobel should be a familiar one, as he has been with AccuWeather for 35 years, and is a regular guest on radio stations as well as MSNBC. With that in mind, Dr. Sobel posted an article at the AccuWeather blog Wednesday highly critical of the naming of sub-tropical storms, most recently Andrea. In his view, this practice - which is only five years old - is exaggerating the number of storms per year thereby adding to global warming alarmism. (05/10/07)

Biofuel or Biohazard? - There is a need for biofuel certification, and the ugly inconvenient truth is if you came up with a comprehensive set of criteria for biofuel certification, there may not be any environmentally justifiable reason to grow biofuel, other than in certain low yield applications in arid regions to stablize soil, and within contained, factory environments. (05/10/07)

Warming fallacy - By Larry Kelley - The sun's output has been steadily increasing, as is evidenced by the melting of the polar ice caps on Mars, the liquefying of Saturn's ice-covered moons and the fact that Pluto is maintaining an atmosphere further into its solar apogee. Nothing we can do will halt the cyclic heating of the sun. The truth is the New World Order crowd, including the United Nations and the Council on Foreign Relations, have seized on this opportunity to blitz the controlled media into imposing a global tax on carbon emissions. Increased control and surveillance will follow. (05/10/07)

Power plan dooms world's poor - By LORRIE GOLDSTEIN - Environmentalists keep telling us they love humanity. So apparently it's just people a lot of them have trouble with. This tendency is being noted with alarm even by former environmental crusaders, as the hysteria over global warming escalates. (05/10/07)

This is a must read!
JANET ALBRECHTSEN: Hysterics 101 - APPARENTLY, the NSW Board of Studies is looking to introduce climate change classes for kindergarten to Year 6 children as part of its science and technology syllabus. The problem, of course, is what they will be taught. There are plenty of reasons for concern on this score. Adults have barely engaged in a grown-up conversation over the causes of global warming. Debate over the what, how, why, and when on global warming has been drowned out by hysteria. If you disagree with some of the science, and the religious fervour it has fuelled, or even evince a level of agnosticism towards it, you are not just wrong. You are a bad person forced to defend your integrity as well as your arguments (05/10/07)

The Battle of the Bulb - By Pamela Meister - Believe it or not, several states have fallen for the "global warming" hysteria, introducing legislation designed to ban traditional light bulbs in favor of fluorescents! FSM Contributing Editor Pam Meister takes misguided politicians to task in this entertaining and informative article. (05/10/07)

Hybrid-driving media mogul finds it's easy being green - By Mark Coultan, Herald Correspondent in New York - RUPERT MURDOCH has got the message, and now he wants the rest of us to get it, too. He's become a convert to concerns about global warming and climate change. He recently bought himself a hybrid car. And if you believe this, I got some carbon offsets I'll sell ya... (05/10/07)

This article was written by Randy Hall, staff writer and editor at CNSNews.com - To receive a degree from Roger Williams University in Rhode Island, students are being forced to watch "An Inconvenient Truth," the documentary on global warming produced by former Vice President Al Gore. The science class requirement has prompted one conservative student to declare that "we should stop calling these schools 'bastions of knowledge' since they're really bastions of leftist thought." (05/09/07)

I'll give you something to worry about - David Warren, The Ottawa Citizen - I have written before in these pages that "global warming" is a great imposture and fraud that will, a generation from now, look like the Club of Rome forecasts for a generation ago. That aside, it is tremendously consequential: not because the predictions are plausible (they are based on computer modelling, which cannot even tell you reliably what the weather will be next week), but because it offers a "window of impunity" to vastly increase the scope of government. That is why, all over the world, politicians have scrambled aboard the climate-change bandwagon even more enthusiastically than the media. (05/09/07)

German Mag Debunks Climate Change Hysteria, Extols Benefits of Warming Planet - By Noel Sheppard - Here's something you're unlikely to see in an American newspaper or magazine: global warming might actually be good for the planet and its inhabitants. This radical idea was advanced Monday by the German magazine Der Spiegel which did something I can't imagine a U.S. publication having the nerve to do in this highly politicized environment: offer readers a comprehensive, balanced view of the pluses and minuses inherent in a warming earth. (05/09/07)

Common-sense solutions needed - By Dave Wheeler, Niagara Falls, The Hamilton Spectator - Re: Greening the economy - I wonder how hasty the global warming pundits would be to get rid of the coal-fuelled electrical generators and replace them with greener but more expensive power if their jobs depended on some of that power? The expensive greener power they propose will make it harder for manufacturers in Canada to compete with industries that use cheap fossil fuel power such as the U.S., China and India. Expensive green power will make it harder for the ordinary working stiff to get and keep a job. Throw in a higher electrical power bill at home, just to rub salt in the wound. (05/09/07)

Gore As Religious Figure - By Warner Todd Huston - I can understand the appeal of the global Warming religion, I really can. For those who have disavowed conventional religion and have decided that man is the ultimate power - by which they mean themselves in particular, not just humanity in general - the thought that they alone can save the planet is heady stuff, indeed. Time Magazine has become one of the most absurd publications in the country. From their asinine "100 Most Influential People" to this ridiculous "Global Warming Survival Guide", the editors at Time have driven the publication into the world of the tabloids.
Global hysteria - By Ben-Peter Terpstra - TIME Magazine believes that Gore and "global warming" sermons are a great combination. That's why their environmental doctrines are so very bizarre, I guess. How bizarre? Try reading TIME Magazine's "Global Warming Survival Guide" dated, April 9, 2007, and the "51 Things You Can Do to Make a Difference". Rule 26: "Plant a bamboo fence", because it feels good? (05/09/07)

Inconvenient truths - By David Deming, Ph.D., The Sun - The largest single factor driving the debate on global warming is the Al Gore film An Inconvenient Truth. The movie has been marketed as a scientific documentary, but in fact it is an artful and deceptive propaganda film. (05/09/07)

The Nutty Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals to Consider Major Global Warming Lawsuit - Court to Decide Challenge to Low Fuel-Economy Standards - SAN FRANCISCO - On Monday, May 14th, a three-judge panel of the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals will consider the Center for Biological Diversity's challenge to the Bush administration's national fuel-economy standards for SUVs and pickup trucks. The lawsuit asserts that the government violated the Energy Policy and Conservation Act and the National Environmental Policy Act by ignoring greenhouse gas emissions and global warming when setting the fuel-economy standards for model year 2008-2011 SUVs and pickup trucks. Scientists: Early Tropical Storm Not Due to Global Warming - By Andrea Thompson and Ker Than - The first named Atlantic storm of 2007 crept in Wednesday well before the season's official June 1 start, raising the question of whether global warming might be responsible for its early arrival. Flowers, tree leaves, birds and other signs of spring have appeared earlier in recent years at various spots globally, so can Subtropical Storm Andrea's arrival three weeks ahead of schedule also be blamed on climate change? "Oh, gosh, no," said James Kossin, a meteorologist at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. (05/09/07)

Uh-oh. The greenies are getting wound up now...
Right Wing's Global Warming Denial Takes New Form, Now Attacks Advice Of Military Generals - The national security consequences of climate change are real and predictable. Leading environmental scientists have already said that climate change will bring about reduced access to fresh water, impaired food production, more diseases, land loss and displacement of major populations. This is most likely to affect the world's poorest regions, thus providing an incubator for extremist ideologies and terrorism and fights over scarce resources. Oh no! It's the end of the world!!! The Left's Global Warming Solution: No More Children! - By Ben Shapiro - Proving once again that foolish ideas don't die or fade away -- they walk the earth eternally, preying on the brains of the living -- scientists at a UK think tank have determined that the greatest threat to the planet is more human beings. "The effect on the planet of having one child less is an order of magnitude greater than all these other things we might do, such as switching off lights," explains Professor John Guillebaud, co-chairman of the Optimum Population Trust (OPT). "The greatest thing anyone in Britain could do to help the future of the planet would be to have one less child." (05/09/07)

Stop global warming: eat plants? - By GRAEME MCRANOR, 24 HOURS - "The production of animal-based foods uses a huge amount of resources and an incredible amount of energy from fossil fuel to produce," says Brazier. "Food production and its transportation is the No. 1 draw (05/09/07)

Doherty declares himself a global warming skeptic - Local politician debates issue. His opponent's on a mission to cut greenhouse gas emissions. - By SARA K. SATULLO - The Express-Times NORTH BRANCH | For state Assemblyman Mike Doherty, R-Warren, the debate over global warming is far from over. Tuesday night he sponsored a public forum at Raritan Valley Community College with Assemblywoman Linda Stender, D-Middlesex/Somerset/Union. Stender is the driving force behind the Global Warming Response Act, which aims to cut greenhouse gas emissions 20 percent by 2020, and 80 percent by 2050. "My goal here is to let the public know there's at least one legislator in New Jersey that doesn't think Americans and New Jersey residents are the bad guys," Doherty said, explaining much of the burden of combating global warming has been put on America. He reiterated his skepticism over the truth in global warming, citing conflicting findings among scientists. Doherty said he wants to keep the conversation going. (05/09/07)

Trade-offs and global warming - If fighting climate change is inconvenient and expensive, it won't happen: A modest proposal to make it easier, from Fortune's Cait Murphy. - By Cait Murphy, Fortune assistant managing editor - "Please tax me to encourage a long-term shift away from harmful emissions" is not much of a bumper sticker, but it is both honest and the best policy. And, over time, it may just fill that clean-energy bus to the Hamptons (05/09/07)

Warming hysteria misplaced - By Andrew Bolt - We're told so many mad scare stories about global warming, why shouldn't Art Bell believe this one, too? And so the radio host and best-selling author last weekend read out to his audience on Coast to Coast, one of America's most listened-to shows, this latest report he'd picked about our warming horror: "Shocking reports from the Kremlin today are showing that the Government of Australia has entered into secret negotiations with the United States and their Commonwealth allies for the proposed evacuation of upwards of 11 million of its 20 million citizens." (05/09/07)

Global Warming is Good for You - By Alan Scholl - The scary scenarios are well known: Global warming will kill all the polar bears. It will lead to famine for humans. It will cause mass extinctions because animals can not adapt to rapidly rising temperatures. Biologist Josef Reichholf doesn't believe any of it. A zoologist who, according to the German version of Wikipedia, has held academic positions with the Technical University of Munich and with Ludwig-Maximilians-University, also of Munich, Reichholf dismissed many of the most frequently referenced fears about global warming in a recent interview with the German magazine Der Spiegel. (05/09/07)

Hey Nancy, Sheryl, Laurie and Al, did you know...?
Overcrowded skies add to global warming - In the West, the growing worry about planes causing global warming has forced big aviation companies to develop and adapt greener technology. But many are asking that, will it really matter if the skies get more and more overcrowded. The white cloud, whether seen or unseen, is said to be a cocktail of deadly gases that are contributing to global warming. At the altitude of 25,000 to 50,000 feet the release of especially Nitrous-di-Oxide affects the ozone layer directly. This damage is more than any emissions on the ground. (05/08/07)

Light Plight: Bulbs better for environment can be hazardous to health - By Jeff Alexander - Replacing conventional lights with compact fluorescent bulbs -- a popular energy conservation measure promoted as a way to fight global warming -- could create toxic nightmares for unsuspecting consumers. Compact fluorescents and all other fluorescent bulbs contain small amounts of mercury, which can cause brain damage. When broken, fluorescent bulbs release mercury vapors into the air that could pose health threats, particularly to small children, government officials said. (05/08/07)

Volcanoes, CO2 global warming - So, where the term 'global warming' come from.......? We made it up! - By Bud Clydesdale - These fear mongering luddites are a well oiled industry and a very profitable one to the propagators of it. Books, papers, 'studies', appearances, interviews, donations, speeches, articles, columns, foundation grants, government grants, 'non profit' tax exempt salaries and web sites with 'donate buttons'. And, as long as it can keep a duped media on side, it will continue to be profitable. (05/08/07)

ABC Science Blog: What the Heck, Let's Blame Global Warming Anyway - By Ken Shepherd - The Greensburg tornado disaster was just the perfect excuse for another global warming item on ABCNews.com. After all, the Associated Press and CNN have focused on an Iraq angle to devastating tornado damage, but finding an Iraq angle to everything is so, I dunno, 2004. At any rate, on his "Science and Society" blog at ABCNews.com yesterday, reporter Ned Potter set out to find why tornado touchdowns have increased in the past few years. (05/08/07)

Neptune News - Neptune is the planet farthest from the Sun (Pluto is now considered only a dwarf planet), Neptune is the planet farthest from the Earth, and to our knowledge, there has been absolutely no industrialization out at Neptune in recent centuries. There has been no recent build-up of greenhouse gases there, no deforestation, no rapid urbanization, no increase in contrails from jet airplanes, and no increase in ozone in the low atmosphere; recent changes at Neptune could never be blamed on any human influence. Incredibly, an article has appeared in a recent issue of Geophysical Research Letters showing a stunning relationship between the solar output, Neptune's brightness, and heaven forbid, the temperature of the Earth. With its obvious implications to the greenhouse debate, we are certain you have never heard of the work and never will outside World Climate Report. (05/08/07)

BS ALERT: Americans stealing water.
Lake Superior recedes to lowest level in 80 years - Frank Dobrovnik / THE SAULT STAR Local News - Hey, who pulled the plug from Lake Superior? That's just about the only explanation Marilyn Reed can come up with after watching her Goulais River shoreline, just upstream from Superior, drop two feet since last summer. "I think there's some kind of drain at the bottom of Lake Superior somewhere, spilling into the core of the Earth," said Reed, who installed a breakwall last July and "could actually see it going down, down, down" since then. (05/08/07)

It's the consumerism, stupid!
Waste not now, want not later - By Tami Jones - So if we truly want to stop global warming, complete depletion of local water resources and excess effluents into the ocean, lets start working on our excessive consumerism. Consumerism consumes us all and it's our spending habits that negatively affect the planet, the poor and destitute world-wide and nature's perfect tradition and harmony. Is there hope? Sadly, it looks as though unless we all go beyond the glib actions of being voracious consumers, there is none. LAMO! Well excuse me for living. (05/08/07)

Warming-Induced Increases in Ocean Productivity - In setting the stage for their important new study, McGregor et al. (2007) say "coastal upwelling occurs along the eastern margins of major ocean basins and develops when predominantly along-shore winds force offshore Ekman transport of surface waters, which leads to the ascending (or upwelling) of cooler, nutrient-rich water." In addition, they note that these regions of coastal upwelling account for about 20% of the global fish catch while constituting less than 1% of the area covered by the world's oceans. (05/08/07)

Global Warming and Malaria: The Northern Thailand Story - Noting that "there has been a steady reduction through time of total malaria incidence in northern Thailand, with an average decline of 6.45% per year," Childs et al. say this result "reflects changing agronomic practices and patterns of immigration, as well as the success of interventions such as vector control programmes, improved availability of treatment and changing drug policies," which means that we can't attribute the welcome trend to global warming. Aw, shucks. (05/08/07)

Is Global Warming Causing the Earth to Burn? - ncreased wildfires are often said by climate alarmists to be caused by global warming, because somewhere on earth it is always possible to find such a trend; and in some of these cases, it is possible that rising temperatures may indeed have been involved. But what is learned when the entire world is surveyed? Although one can identify parts of the world that experienced increases in land area burned over the last two decades of the 20th century, for the globe as a whole there was absolutely no relationship between global warming and total area burned over this period. (05/08/07)

The Corporate Climate Coup - By David F. Noble - Don't breathe. There's a total war on against CO2 emissions, and you are releasing CO2 with every breath. The multi-media campaign against global warming now saturating our senses, which insists that an increasing CO2 component of greenhouse gases is the enemy, takes no prisoners: you are either with us or you are with the "deniers." No one can question the new orthodoxy or dare risk the sin of emission. If Bill Clinton were running for president today he would swear he didn't exhale. (05/08/07)

lmao!
Stockholders' Questions Answered at Berkshire's Annual Meeting - There is enough evidence to suggest global warming is occurring. General Re is taking it seriously. Charlie Munger chimed in, however, that "you'd have to be a pot-smoking journalism student to believe global warming is a threat to the existence of mankind." What matters are the dislocations that will occur due to global warming, not global warming itself. People generally like it warmer. After all, people aren't moving from Southern California to North Dakota. (05/08/07)

Melting Of The Greenland Ice Cap May Have Consequences For Climatic Change - Based on this observation, scientists consider that the acceleration of the melting of the Greenland ice cap could play an important role in the future stability of ocean circulation and, hence, in the development of climate change. Cold shoulder to global warming - By Matthew Warren - The much-vaunted green budget has ended up being a clear statement of disintent. The Howard Government has put the environment well down the dispatch list of economic priorities. The priority of last night's environment budget was a return to traditional environmental issues. It deliberately makes as its centrepiece the management of the bush, trees and water, ahead of the hot topic of climate change. (05/08/07)

Arctic Climate Expert: Gore's Film Is 'Science Fiction' - LaRouche Youth Movement member Ian Overton interviewed Dr. Syun-Ichi Akasofu, former Director of the International Arctic Research Center, on April 23, 2007. The interview was conducted by telephone. Dr. Akasofu appeared in the British Channel 4-TV documentary, "The Great Global Warming Swindle," aired March 8. Video is available (05/08/07)

Keep global warming debate focused on issues
Editorial
- An editorial from the Sudbury Star - Green Party Leader Elizabeth May has a penchant for controversy, and it befits her goals, but she has no one to blame but herself for three days of bad press over her decision to invoke the spectre of the Nazis in her crusade. If her intention was to get press, she got it, but it didn't do her any good. (05/08/07)

FormRouter and Global Warming Initiatives Launch GreenPDF.com to Raise World Awareness - Knowledge Workers Can Now Do Their Part to Save the Environment by Adding the 'Print Less' Message to All PDFs They Distribute CARY, N.C., May 8 /PRNewswire/ -- FormRouter, a pioneer in hosted services for electronic forms, and Global Warming Initiatives (GWI), a leading non- profit helping organizations to reduce greenhouse gasses, announced today the launch of GreenPDF.com. The website and awareness campaign are designed to educate the public on the environmental impact of printing PDF documents. The GreenPDF.com website allows anyone to upload a PDF and have an environmental awareness notice injected into the document. The goal is to encourage the 700 million users of PDF documents not to print when viewing one of the 200 million PDFs on the Web today. (05/08/07)

Mayors fall into "carbon trap" - Press Release: New Zealand Climate Science Coalition - The Auckland and Waitakere mayors have fallen into the carbon trap laid by the likes of the Green Party and Greenpeace, in adding their voices to the unproven myth that emissions of carbon dioxide will threaten the survival of the planet, said Rear Admiral Jack Welch, chairman of the New Zealand Climate Science Coalition. Global Warming Hysteria! - By Malcolm Hedges - Progressives in a massive rush to avoid reality, clamor to embrace the fake Global Warming scam. The real enemy of the Western World is IslamoFascism, but candy-a** Progressive wimps want to suppress the message by going wild over this Global Warming BS! (05/07/07)

GLOBAL WARMING : Not the End of the World as We Know It - By Olaf Stampf - How bad is climate change really? Are catastrophic floods and terrible droughts headed our way? Despite widespread fears of a greenhouse hell, the latest computer simulations are delivering far less dramatic predictions about tomorrow's climate. (05/07/07)

We're not yet serious about this 'war' - By Lorrie Goldstein - With everyone from Prince Charles to Green Party Leader Elizabeth May comparing the fight against global warming to the Second World War -- some more tastefully than others -- let's make something clear. The comparison is stupid and misleading. Fighting a "war" implies there is an "enemy" that we can defeat after a few years of supreme effort and sacrifice, as our parents and grandparents did defeating the Axis powers. This is nonsense. There is no enemy, unless you think things like electricity, heat and modern transportation are the enemies of mankind. (05/07/07)

Gore's willing accomplices in the classroom - By Jason Mattera - Music icon Sheryl Crow just wrapped up her "Stop Global Warming College Tour." And while no Rhode Island school hosted her biodiesel bus, the pop singer's persistence on propagandizing young and malleable minds with greenhouse hype sure did resonate with the leftist faculty at Roger Williams University (RWU). The week before Earth Day, professors teaching CORE 101: Science, Technology and Society broke from a normal day of classes to watch Al Gore's An Inconvenient Truth. The eco-marching orders were handed down by the assistant dean of the science department, Jeffrey A. Hughes (contact info here). (05/07/07)

Political Economist Robert Higgs on Peer Reviews and Scientific Consensus - By Noel Sheppard - How many times in the past year as global warming has become a headline issue have you heard a liberal media member or Hollywood elite talk about a consensus of peer reviewed scientists? So much so that you can't swing a dead cat without hitting one, correct? (05/07/07)

Biofuels Will Not Solve Global Warming: IPCC's Report Sparks Protest - By Clayton Bodie Cornell Last week's release of the IPCC's Summary for Policymakers on climate change mitigation sparked backlash from several environmental groups. In a joint press release, Biofuelwatch, Global Forest Coalition, Global Justice Ecology Project, and several others stated they are "deeply concerned" about the inclusion of "large-scale expansion of biofuels from monoculture", including Genetically Modified (GM) crops, as a specific recommendation for mitigating catastrophic climate change. Gas pump prices - Jack, say it ain't so! - By Arthur Weinreb - The negative reaction of Jack Layton to the increase in gasoline prices that will help save the environment is further proof that the nonsense he and others spout about man-made global warming is further proof that climate change is a political, not a scientific issue. We are constantly being told to reduce our "carbon footprints" by being more "environmentally friendly". We are only a few short years away from having the light bulb police banging at our doors to look for illegal incandescent light bulbs. Yet being unable to drive as much and having to resort to public transportation or horror of horrors, bicycles, is now a bad thing; a problem that must be cured by creating another government agency to bring down the cost at the pumps. Japan pledges $100 million to Asian Development Bank to combat global warming - By HANS GREIMEL - KYOTO, Japan (AP) - Japan pledged $100 million in grants to the Asian Development Bank on Sunday to combat global warming and promote greener investment in the region and called for a stronger international agreement to cut greenhouse gas emissions. The money is part of a new initiative by the government in Tokyo to support sustainable development in response to increasing concern that Asia's breakneck economic growth is destroying the environment. It comes just days after a breakthrough agreement in Thailand set the world's first roadmap for fighting climate change. (05/07/07)

Liberal "Scientists" Lead Jihad Against Global-Warming Skeptics - by Ivan Osorio, Iain Murray, and Myron Ebell - The Union of Concerned Scientists is not about to relent in its green climate crusade. Yet UCS does not speak for the scientific community. Instead, it is a well-funded, left-wing pressure group, which politicizes science while claiming to be its true guardian. A partisan is no less a partisan because he has won the Nobel Prize, but a scientist is less of a scientist if he allows ideology to color his research. (05/07/07)

3 of 4 Pinoys want global warming addressed but gradually - Three of four Filipinos want the government to address the problem of global warming but want gradual, low-cost solutions, with the Philippines also placing in the middle of a 12-nation survey on citizens' sense of urgency in addressing the issue. Global warming forum Tuesday - Local legislators feel it's important to present both sides of the issue. - By Trish G. Graber - TRENTON | An executive order signed this year by Gov. Jon Corzine to combat global warming followed years of worldwide public debate over whether humans actually contribute to the earth's rising temperature. But Assemblyman Mike Doherty says the debate isn't over yet. (05/07/07)

Supreme Global Warming Derangement: Having Large Families 'Is an Eco-crime' - By Noel Sheppard - Global warming derangement syndrome has taken a disturbing turn for the worse, as The Sunday Times published an article May 6 stating that parents should only have two children in order to avert climate change. I kid you not. The piece, despicably titled "Having Large Families 'is an Eco-crime,'" unbelievably began: HAVING large families should be frowned upon as an environmental misdemeanour in the same way as frequent long-haul flights, driving a big car and failing to reuse plastic bags, says a report to be published today by a green think tank. (05/06/07)

The other day, comedian Bill Maher refered to conservatives' facination with Ronald Reagan as almost "gay". Well if that's true, the following story illustrates how the media's facination with the Goracle is even more obsessive, even cultish.
Bob Richter: Gore sure didn't want coverage, but here's why he's getting it - Gore's message is too important, I think, to get muddled. Our intrepid reporter, Caputo, went over to the convention center Thursday, registered under his own name and address as an "expo only" attendee and got a pass that gave him access to the speech. Then he covered it and wrote about it. It was that easy. Purists might contend that was unethical. To me, it was like crashing a Ku Klux Klan rally. Gore didn't want coverage. We think he deserved it. (05/06/07)

Global warming not to blame for storm spike, scientist(Dr. Chris Landsea) says - By Mike Lyons - I don't know about you, but I really liked last year's hurricane season. Only five hurricanes formed during 2006, and for the first time since 2001, none of those tropical systems came anywhere near Florida. In fact, to give you some idea how unusual last year turned out to be, the tiny island of Bermuda was threatened and hit by more tropical storms and hurricanes than any other location in the Atlantic basin (the Atlantic Ocean, Caribbean Sea and Gulf of Mexico.) The issue has become one of the hottest debates in science and is the subject of a new study by Dr. Chris Landsea of the National Hurricane Center. (05/06/07)

WA announces climate change vision - Experts will begin preparing Western Australia for a future national carbon trading scheme as part of the state's efforts to address climate change. Premier Alan Carpenter outlined an action plan to reduce the state's greenhouse gas emissions to 60 per cent of 2000 levels by 2050, including tougher building rules to be introduced from September 1. "There will be a national carbon trading scheme in Australia despite what John Howard may or may not want." (05/06/07)

Markey feels heat as chair of global warming committee - By Associated Press - WASHINGTON - Rep. Edward Markey did not look happy. The chairman of the newly formed House committee on global warming was presiding over a recent hearing - and getting an earful from Arizona Republican Rep. John Shadegg. Shadegg complained that Markey had gaveled him down prematurely at a previous hearing as Shadegg zeroed in on some key testimony from a witness. "I assumed he would not have intentionally cut me off, although the appearance was there," Shadegg said of the Malden Democrat. (05/06/07)

Kicking Plastic Bag Habit - By Joel Lang, Courant Staff Writer - Connecticut residents are taking global warming personally, suggests a new poll conducted for The Courant. By wide margins, residents said they favor three conservation measures that can help reduce greenhouse gas emissions: getting rid of energy-wasting incandescent light bulbs, banning plastic grocery bags and paying a $5 recycling surcharge when they buy any computer or television. What? The bullshit begins in the title...
Flora and fauna pushed around by cold April, global warming - By John Serrao - Even though some European scientists and birders are reporting that many birds have been returning as much as one or two weeks earlier in spring compared to just a few decades ago because of global warming, my observations haven't seen such differences in the northeastern United States. Some people may be tempted to view this April's cold weather as proof that global warming is untrue. Such a conclusion is extremely naive, since it's based on a single month's weather. The truth is, many of the warmest years ever recorded on earth have been in the past two decades. (05/06/07)

Monckton saves the day! - A favourite policy adviser of Mrs Thatcher in the Eighties, the 3rd Viscount Monckton of Brenchley is now the country's most notorious climate-change sceptic and has thrown down a challenge to Al Gore to a public debate on global warming. What does he know that we don't? Only that he has never been wrong. - By Tim Adams (05/06/07)

Pollution: the real problem - I am cynical about a lot of the hype about Global warming, not because I don't feel it is true (I used to live in Minnesota, after all. It was under 200 feet of ice twelve thousand years ago) but because it is this years' "We're All Gonna Die" hype, similar to hypes of various sorts that I've heard about over the last 50 plus years. Pure lunacy! More global warming madness and First Amendment attacks - Felicia Benamon - Could we get any more idiotic than this? The designation of July 4th, our Independence Day as "Energy Independence Day"! Have I missed something? Has the Global Warming fanaticism hit SO hard that now we direct attention away from one of our most patriotic days celebrated in our nation to declare our allegiance to... "Mother Earth?" (05/05/07)

Ah hah!
The Greenpeace in the chicken coop - By Henry Payne - Here's a little insight into how the "global consensus" on climate change is formed. (05/05/07)

How to make a case for only presenting the alarmist side...
what we need here is a bias in favour of truth - The pressure to present balanced accounts of controversial issues shouldn't extend to nonsense - Peter McKnight, Vancouver Sun - Two years ago a Scientific American editorial announced that the magazine would institute a sweeping policy change, a change so radical that it would completely reorient the magazine's approach to science journalism...The editors were, of course, not really suggesting that they intended henceforth to put science and non-science - and nonsense - on equal footing; they were, rather, ridiculing those who demand that journalists do so, those who argue that good journalism involves merely presenting both sides of an issue and letting readers decide the truth. (05/05/07)

Gore sees 'spiritual crisis' in warming - Anton Caputo - It's in part a spiritual crisis," Gore told the crowd in the Convention Center at the American Institute of Architects national convention. "It's a crisis of our own self-definition - who we are. Are we creatures destined to destroy our own species? Clearly not." On the request of Gore's media handlers, Saturday's event was closed to the media. Because of the importance of the issue and Gore's status, the San Antonio Express-News chose to cover it anyway. Sheryl Crow: On Deception, Spin, and Losing Our Way
- By Sheryl Crow - It's been well over a week since our little run in with the adviser to our president. I am just now processing all that took place during the last few days of the Stop Global Warming College tour and a few concerns still hang heavy on my mind and heart. First, I am deeply concerned over where we are as a nation. We are so blessed to live in a country where we enjoy so many rights that other countries cannot even begin to imagine. However, what terrifies me is not what we are ignoring about the state of our planet but the fact that we seem to have lost touch with our connection to the earth. (05/04/07)

The human contribution is negligible - John Fogle - A funny thing happened on the way to doomsday. Well, not really funny, but peculiar anyway. In looking at the science and logic behind global warming alarmism, specifically the theory that increases in carbon dioxide cause a global temperature increase, I discovered a fantastic new technique for analyzing scientific data. (05/04/07)

Ali G vs. Borat - [Jim Manzi] - Why is Ali G so much better than Borat? Because it's much better to laugh at a comic when he is making fun of self-important celebrities than when he mocks ordinary people just trying to be nice to someone who is mocking them. I have a lot of sympathy for people who are trying to lead simpler lives. Not so much for vapid celebrities who are hectoring everyone else on the planet. (05/04/07)

Time's 100 'Most Influential' Loaded with Little Green Men (and Women) - Eco-tastic celebs, politicians and even CEOs make the magazine's list. - It's hard to believe that after offering more than 50 ways to save the planet that Time could find more ways to revel in environmental hype. Yet, the latest Time issue which lists the 100 "Most Influential People in the World" paints a very green picture. The list of "people who shape our world" favors those interested in saving the world by fighting off global warming and forcing "green" practices on businesses and individuals. (05/04/07)

Al Gore - By James Hansen, Al's special friend - Article ToolsPrintEmail Al Gore understands the science of global warming better than anyone else in the world of politics. His interest was sparked when he was a student at Harvard, studying with the legendary geochemist Roger Revelle, who realized that humanity's pell-mell burning of fossil fuels could make the earth a vastly different and warmer place. What? See if you can follow this "logic"
Global Warming to Change Day's Length - By Andrea Thompson, LiveScience Staff Writer - Like the physics behind a figure skater pulling in her arms to cause a faster spin, the pressure transfer would shift the ocean's mass toward Earth's axis of rotation, Marotzke said. As the mass shifted, the Earth would spin around faster, shortening the length of the day by about 0.12 milliseconds (about 1/500th of the blink of an eye) by the year 2200. (05/04/07)

New from the JunkMan
Green Gas-Lighting? - By Steven Milloy - We will continue this column's look at the unintended consequences and knee-slapping irony of our society's mindless lurch toward becoming "green" by considering two new studies on alternative fuels. From hybrid cars costing far more than they save in the way of fuel economy to Northern latitude forests causing global warming, to mercury-containing compact fluorescent light bulbs potentially turning homes into toxic waste sites, it's becoming more apparent every day that green-ness is not necessarily what it's cracked up to be. (05/04/07)

More absurdity
Plan for global warming: Bite the dust - By Jim Downing - Bee Staff Writer - Say 2080 comes around and the climate-change doomsayers have turned out to be right. Greenland is half-melted. Coastal cities are starting to flood. California's reservoirs have all but dried up. It's time to bring out the big guns. In a bombardment of the skies, battleship artillery blasts millions of tons of sulfur dust into the stratosphere. It deflects enough of the sun's rays to cool the planet by a few critical degrees. In a flourish worthy of Superman, the sweaty planet is saved. (05/04/07)

Media untruthful in reporting global warming as mankind's top problem - Given the hot air over global warming, it follows that the public mistakenly believes it is a "top problem" and that mankind is responsible (Times Union, April 21). What we need is more truthful reporting of historic temperatures, greenhouse gases, warming skeptics, solar activity and the costs of adopting the Kyoto Treaty. (05/04/07)

Beating global warming need not cost the earth-UN - Source: Reuters - By David Fogarty - The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), in the third of a series of reports, said keeping the rise in temperatures to within 2 degrees Celsius would cost only 0.12 percent of annual gross domestic product. And if you believe that, I got some carbon offsets I'll sell ya! (05/04/07)

The Regular Guy View on the Global Warming "Danger" - By Roger Pool - I do believe Global Warming presents a dire threat to humanity but not in the way most people think it does. Global Warming is just another scare scam that is being used to herd us regular people off of a cliff. Is there Global Warming? Yes, but it is not confined to Earth. (05/04/07)

Liberation Day event highlights global warming, marijuana use - Hemp cultivation to help end global warming. Every environmentally-aware citizen needs to learn about using nature's greatest agricultural crop for biomass and other industrial uses. Despite the rhetoric of detractors, the hemp varieties which grow the best fiber, oils, and pulp for paper grow the worst marijuana. This multi-use plant must return to the marketplace, with the possible outcome of saving small farmers and slowing the growth of greenhouse gasses. lmao! (05/03/07)

Arctic leaders blame warming for wolves, suicide - Source: Reuters - By Deborah Zabarenko, Environment Correspondent - WASHINGTON, May 3 (Reuters) - Global warming sent marauding wolves into an Alaskan hamlet, killed Norwegian reindeer with unlikely parasites and may even spur suicide among Inuit youth, Arctic leaders said on Thursday. Suicide? How ridiculous! It's becoming more and more difficult to read Reuters. (05/03/07)

Global Warming: It's the rice paddies, stupid - Right now I'm "studying" ancient history, i.e. the neolithic world and the rise of agriculture. Part of the reason for it was...climate change. I mean, if the Sahara hadn't changed from a lush grass plain full of animals into a desert, the people would never have bothered to settle along the Nile and plant crops. This is not to argue that we shouldn't stop pollution, but that simplistic arguments to demonize SUV's and destroy the US economy by following Kyoto are not the way to go. Yet now there are reports of other sources of "global warming", such as cows. And today's scare tactic? It's the rice paddies, stupid. (05/03/07)

Study Stirs Up Debate On Global Warming, Hurricanes - NEW ORLEANS - A new study is stirring up debate over the connection between global warming and hurricanes. It's been widely publicized that global warming raises water temperatures and therefore leads to more frequent and powerful hurricanes. But a group of researchers said global warming may actually do the opposite - that is, decrease the strength of hurricanes or even help to prevent the deadly storms. (05/03/07)

Dems: Use intelligence funds to study warming - By Christina Bellantoni - Senior House Republicans are complaining about Democrats' plans to divert "scarce" intelligence funds to study global warming. The House next week will consider the Democrat-crafted Intelligence Authorization bill, which includes a provision directing an assessment of the effects that climate change has on national security. "Our job is to steal secrets," said Rep. Peter Hoekstra of Michigan, the ranking Republican on the Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence. "There are all kinds of people analyzing global warming," he told The Washington Times. "There's no value added by the intelligence community here; they have no special expertise, and this takes money and resources away from other threats." (05/03/07)

Glenn Beck's "Climate of Fear" Attacks Global Warming Alarmists and Kyoto Fallacies - By Noel Sheppard - If you missed it last night, Glenn Beck's skeptical program about anthropogenic global warming, "Climate of Fear," aired on CNN Headline News. In it, Beck skewered many of the misnomers advanced by global warming alarmists, especially soon-to-be-Dr. Al Gore. (05/03/07)

"Progressives" attack CNN Anchor for daring to interview Glenn Beck, thus allowing an opposing view to be heard. The audacity of CNN to allow one of their anchors to interview one of their hosts about a program that appeared on their network. The nerve of those self-promoting conservative devils at CNN!
Former Fox Host Helps CNN Promote Glenn Beck's Anti-Global Warming Agenda - Last night, CNN's right-wing pundit Glenn Beck - who has a history of making flagrantly false and offensive statements - aired a documentary on global warming entitled "Exposed: The Climate of Fear." Beck concluded, "Al Gore's version of climate change has no longer become science. It's dogma. And if you question it, you are a heretic. The debate is not over. I have a feeling it's just beginning." What? An alternative view to climate change? Oh, the horror! (05/03/07)

Al Gore Global Warming Snafu: How Green Was My Palace? - By Froma Harrop - Can one be big and green? Environmentalists have long pondered whether you can stick solar panels on a battleship of a house and still claim to be the planet's friend. Revelations that Al Gore's manse in Nashville, Tenn., uses 10 times the energy of the average American home have goosed this ongoing debate. How unfortunate that the Paul Revere of global warming - the man who gallops across America to warn of the coming environmental disaster - spends $500 a month to heat his pool alone. (05/03/07)

Two recent letters attacked those who disagreed with the theory that man's actions were the main cause of global warming. In these letters, syndicated columnists were referred to as "weasels" and persons who challenged the theory as "lackeys of ExxonMobil." Here are but a few of those he refers to as lackeys. Dr. John R. Christy, professor at the University of Alabama Huntsville; the authors of the "IPCC Assessment," Cambridge University; members of NOAA Paleoclimatology Group, National Climate Data Center, Asheville, N.C.; Dr. Claudine Stirling, Research School of Earth Sciences, Australian National University; Petr Chylek, Professor of Physics and Atmospheric Science, Dalhousie University, Halifax, Nova Scotia; (05/03/07)

Buyer Beware, Carbon Cuts Not Always Real - LONDON - Companies and individuals who want to pay others to cut carbon emissions on their behalf are not always getting real cuts in greenhouse gas emissions, as a voluntary, unregulated trade in carbon offsets mushrooms. The Swindle Complaint and Myles Allen - By Steve McIntyre - Bob Ward, who you may remember as the author of various complaints from the U.K. Royal Society, is now employed at Risk Management Solutions Ltd. In his business capacity as Director, Global Science Networks, Risk Management Solutions Ltd., he has filed a complaint about Swindle under a section of the broadcasting code which states: "Views and facts must not be misrepresented". I could understand Ward complaining as an individual citizen, but I'm surprised that he is doing so in his capacity as an employee of Risk Management Solutions. It's intriguing that Risk Management Solutions perceives itself as having a business interest in suppressing the distribution of Swindle as it stands. (05/03/07)

Canadian controversy: How do polar bears fare? - By Fred Langan - Despite global warming, an ongoing study says polar bear populations are rising in the country's eastern Arctic region. Polar bears are the poster animals of global warming. The image of a polar bear floating on an ice floe is one of the most dramatic visual statements in the fight against rising temperatures in the Arctic. But global warming is not killing the polar bears of Canada's eastern Arctic, according to one ongoing study. Scheduled for release next year, it says the number of polar bears in the Davis Strait area of Canada's eastern Arctic - one of 19 polar bear populations worldwide - has grown to 2,100, up from 850 in the mid-1980s. (05/03/07)

Now this is ironic! No mention of the fact that Beck was referring to Ellen Goodman of the Boston Globe who first used the phrase Holocaust deniers on February 9, 2007 when describing anyone opposed to the global warming cult. Maybe it's because his name is "Beck"?
ADL Says Glenn Beck's Outrageous Holocaust Comparison Part Of Troubling Epidemic On The Airwaves - New York, NY, May 2, 2007... The Anti-Defamation League (ADL) today denounced remarks by radio personality Glenn Beck where he compared efforts to raise awareness about global warming to Hitler's plans to exterminate Jews during the Holocaust, saying his remarks are part of "a troubling epidemic on the airwaves, where comparisons to Hitler and the Holocaust are becoming all-too facile." So now "Chamberlain" and "appeasement" are politically incorrect - By Arthur Weinreb - Last weekend, Red Green Party leader Elizabeth May compared Stephen Harper and his Tory government's plan to combat climate change to Sir Neville Chamberlain's 1930s appeasement of Hitler and the Nazis. Reaction was swift and May was criticized for the use of Nazi-era atrocities to make her point about how the Canadian government is handling the environment and global warming. (05/03/07)

Nuclear power no cure for global warming - By Reuters - It's nearly impossible to build enough nuclear power plants to stop earth temperatures from climbing, according to a US think tank. Nuclear energy may not live up to its promise as the solution for global warming, according to separate reports released this week by an environmental group and an independent think tank. (05/03/07)

Christians Taking Sides in Global Warming Debate - By Nathan Burchfiel (CNSNews.com) - Efforts aimed at curbing carbon emissions blamed for global warming could have a negative impact on the world's poor, according to a Christian group formed recently to oppose what it sees as climate change alarmism in evangelical circles. Polar Bear Tourism for a Warming Planet: Natural Habitat Raises the Bar on Eco Travel - BOULDER, Colo., May 2 /PRNewswire/ - The polar bear has become something of a global warming poster child. Following the World Wildlife Fund's announcement - that if current climate trends continue unabated, polar bears could become extinct by the end of this century - tourism to icy environs is on the rise. "It's natural to want to see these incredible creatures while we still can," says Ben Bressler, Founder and Director of Natural Habitat Adventures, known for its intimate, small-group expeditions to visit polar bears in northern Manitoba's Hudson Bay area. "But it's crucial that travelers take responsibility for making sure visits don't further endanger fragile habitats." (05/03/07)

Vegans help lessen global warming - Although it was encouraging to learn that Thais are becoming aware of the threat of global warming ("Climate change now issue of concern here" Bangkok Post, May 2), I was disappointed that no mention was made of the fact that the UN has said that the livestock industry is the No.1 cause of global warming. Consider the following facts: (05/03/07)

Is U.N. Using Media to Spin CO2 Emissions of Developing Nations? - By Noel Sheppard - A truly extraordinary media event occurred Wednesday. One news outlet reported: "Developing nations that are fast industrializing, such as China and India, have braked their rising greenhouse gas emissions by more than the total cuts demanded of rich nations by the U.N.'s Kyoto Protocol." Practically at the same time, another reported: "Yet [China's] coal habit means it will soon overtake the United States as the biggest emitter of greenhouse gases, some say as early as this year." (05/02/07)

The Political Economy of Climate Change - By Robert Haddick - The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) will soon release its 4th Assessment Report. This report will again warn that atmospheric temperatures are due to rise this century with harmful consequences for the planet's ecosystems. The IPCC will recommend that the world embark on an urgent effort to rein in greenhouse gas emissions to diminish these harmful effects. However, regulatory efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions cannot succeed and governments, especially in the developed world, should not attempt them. (05/02/07)

God, Gore & The Global Warming Hype: Hysterics Over The Earth - By Felicia (Fee) Benamon - Global Warming advocates have pushed Global Warming over and over, to the point of hysterics. Al Gore testified before Congress last month on the need to implement changes in American society that would counteract the effects of Global Warming. No doubt there were a few in Congress who disagreed with his assertions, and as Gore continued with his thoughts on the issue, he was clearly irritated. (05/02/07)

Why Canadians may be cool to global warming warnings - In Canada, the problem for those trying to rouse the public to battle climate change is that there are some real advantages that come with warming (05/02/07)

How the left argues - By Thomas Lifson - Soros-funded Media Matters operates in essence a briefing organization, supplying left wing journalists and opinion leaders with talking points to discredit conservative media, especially talk show hosts, in a press release today. It was mass emailed even to me this morning. Media Matters debunks in advance a program they haven't seen, a one hour global warming TV show by Glenn Beck, of Headline News and talk radio.

CNN's Glenn Beck to host hour-long global warming smear-fest - Summary: A CNN press release declared that Glenn Beck's upcoming "special report" will "deflate what Beck perceives as the media hype surrounding global warming" and "question[] the accuracy of Al Gore's claims in the Oscar-winning documentary An Inconvenient Truth." Beck has repeatedly advanced falsehoods related to global climate change, cited debunked scientists to support his doubts that "we're causing" global warming, and regularly attacked Gore. A Scathing Editorial On Global Warming... - from a liberal. Writing in The Nation of all places. The whole "global warming as a religion" combined with "carbon offsets as indulgences" thing has been done by many global warming on the critics over and over again, but this is where the column really gets good: (05/02/07)

Global Warming Update - RUSH: Well, we haven't done a global warming update in quite a while. The news has been accumulating, ladies and gentlemen. So, without any further ado, we get to our global warming update. Al Gore singing. Let 'er rip! RUSH: I am holding something here in my hands I am not sure that I believe, even though I've read it. It's a column by Alexander Cockburn in The Nation. Now, Cockburn is a big lib. The Nation is huge, huge, huge off-the-charts-nutcase lib. It's a magazine that Katrina vanden Heuvel, or Hurricane Katrina vanden Heuvel edits. "Is Global Warming a Sin?" is the headline. "In a couple of hundred years historians will be comparing the frenzies over our supposed human contribution to global warming to the tumults at the latter end of the Tenth Century as the Christian millennium approached. Then as now, the doomsters identified human sinfulness as the propulsive factor in the planet's rapid downward slide. (05/02/07)

US-based index allows bets on global warming fight - NEW YORK, May 2 (Reuters) - Boston-based group KLD Research & Analytics licensed an index on Wednesday that allows investors to bet on companies taking steps to combat global warming. KLD says its Global Climate 100 Index holds small to large-cap companies whose activities reduce the social and economic consequences of climate change. (05/02/07)

Warming policies should be based on science - By Phillip Martin - In his April 30 Community Editorial Board column, Matt Milczarczyk raised an excellent point in his article, Global Warming May Not Be Our Fault, After All. Not his opinion on climate change itself, but his claim that environmentalism can easily fall into the same political pitfalls as any other ideology. (05/02/07)

No "consensus" on global warming - Andrew Morriss is correct about the economic costs of Al Gore's plan. Western wealth is needed to create environment-friendly technology. Al Schumann is correct that C02 creation is mostly natural, and expands agricultural production, as would higher global temperatures. (05/02/07)

Global warming skeptics stifled - Nowadays there doesn't seem to be much a person can do to get away from the issue of global warming. When I'm not confronted with thermometer clipart in newspapers, it's stock news footage of factories churning out smoke or a magazine cover depicting a polar bear precariously perched on an iceberg. As more and more people get the impression that something needs to be done about global warming, I've noticed that the cacophony of voices clamoring for action tend to drown out any attempt at intelligent discussion. Rich nations blamed for global warming - A demand by China, India and Brazil on the global warming issue has held up progress at a key UN climate change conference in Bangkok. The three nations' insistence since the talks started on Monday that the developed world recognize their dominant role in climate change has taken up precious time meant for debate on how best to tackle global warming, AFP reported. (05/02/07)

The Impact of Global Warming on Record-Breaking Temperatures - The findings of this study would seem to suggest that it is not yet statistically justifiable to attribute any individual heat wave or "proliferation of record-breaking temperature events" to historical global warming, be it CO2-induced or otherwise, as so many climate alarmists are typically so quick to do. (05/02/07)

Global warming, Al Gore and a lot more - "Nature rarely uses just one variable to create a phenomenon" - By Anne Andrew - Climate change is not as widely agreed upon as some would have you believe. There are three general opinions on the state of Earth's climate: nothing is changing, the climate is changing but humans have nothing to do with it, and the climate is changing as a result of human intervention. So how is one to know which point of view to take? To hold a valid opinion about the current climate, one must understand some history of temperature trends and where gas content comes from. Environmentalist Fraud - A union leader of all people backs Tories' green plan and takes Gore and Suzuki to task - By JOE WARMINGTON - Buzz Hargrove agreeing with the Conservatives and the Conservatives agreeing with Buzz Hargrove? Maybe there is something funny with the environment after all. But Buzz and the Tories think the only thing that's funny is with the crazy so-called environmentalists' ravenous quest for pushing Global Warming Doom -- all at the cost of the Canadian economy. "Everybody is chasing this new idol called the environment without any thought of how we got here," the CAW president said yesterday. "I am not buying the argument myself." (05/01/07)

Prince Charles issues distress call on environment - Prince Charles is calling on the world to wage war against climate change, likening it to Britain's battle against Nazi Germany. "We can do it. Just think what they did in the last war. Things that seemed impossible were achieved almost overnight," the prince said at a business conference at his London residence, St. James Palace. Women Lead the Climate Change Fight - By Laura Orlando and Linda Carty, Ms. Magazine. - Just shy of the anniversary of Rachel Carson's 100th birthday, and almost 50 years after she wrote the book that helped launch the environmental movement - Silent Spring - U.S. Secretary of the Interior Dirk Kempthorne announced that polar bears might become extinct. But he didn't say why. (05/01/07)

Culture Briefs - Fred Thompson, in an ABC Radio commentary April 24: "Hysteria. Global warming hysteria - a boon for the ethanol and other biofuel enterprises - has boosted demand for crop-based fuels worldwide. The cost of food has jumped over 10 percent in India over the past year, and 6 percent in China, according to the Wall Street Journal. This is partly due to the diversion of corn to biofuels. Meanwhile, European demand for biofuels to replace gasoline is fueling plans for massive clearing of rain forests for palm-oil plantations in Indonesia and Malaysia. As long as global warming is hyped as the world's most important environmental problem, it will be virtually impossible to rationally evaluate other options in dealing with climate change, or confront the unintended consequences unleashed by global warming hysteria." Global Warming On Mars - Global warming is happening. The ice-caps are melting fast. (Picture: The Spine) As the Times reports: "Mars is being hit by rapid climate change and it is happening so fast that the red planet could lose its southern ice cap, writes Jonathan Leake. "Scientists from Nasa say that Mars has warmed by about 0.5C since the 1970s. This is similar to the warming experienced on Earth over approximately the same period. Since there is no known life on Mars it suggests rapid changes in planetary climates could be natural phenomena. (05/01/07)

Biodiesel will not drive down global warming - EU legislation to promote the uptake of biodiesel will not make any difference to global warming, and could potentially result in greater emissions of greenhouse gases than from conventional petroleum derived diesel. This is the conclusion of a new study reported in Chemistry & Industry, the magazine of the SCI. (05/01/07)

Blame the evil institution of capitalism!
Global warming may begin to burn a hole in wallets
Eric Zimmerling
- Nellen suggested several ways to counteract the effects global warming is having on businesses. Among them was a "Command and Control" technique in which laws would be enacted regulating what businesses can and can't do in efforts to decrease global warming. Another idea was a market-based approach system in which businesses would be given penalties or rewarded incentives based on the effects their work is having on global warming. (05/02/07)

Report: Global Warming Nothing New - Richard Bowden - AHN Staff Writer - Corvallis, OR (AHN) - Scientists at Oregon State University have found that a dramatic increase in global temperature caused by volcanic eruptions fifty-five million years ago caused the extinction of many species. Researchers from the U.S. and the U.K. have said their findings may help in understanding today's climate crisis. "We've had a hunch that the intense warming is related to a period of catastrophic volcanic activity," said Dr Bob Duncan, Professor of Oceanography at Oregon State University to the AM program. Skeptics Score Points in Global Warming Debate - By Tom DeWeese - With great fanfare, in March, Al Gore took Capitol Hill like a conquering hero as he testified on Global Warming before both houses of Congress. Fresh from conquests at the Academy Awards where his adoring Hollywood elites showered him with coveted golden statues for spreading their favorite propaganda, Gore was determined to turn his personal conquest into draconian federal law and ultimate human misery. Gore penetrates the Girl Scouts
Girl Scout organizes Global Warming fair - By Karen Hammerdorfer - WEST LONG BRANCH - After watching Al Gore's Academy-award winning documentary "An Inconvenient Truth," 16-year-old Sierra Knotts took action locally - she organized a Global Warming Awareness Fair. For her efforts, Knotts achieved the Gold Award, the highest award given to a Girl Scout. What's more, the state chapter of the U.S. Green Building Council presented Knotts with the Sustainable Community Awareness Award, also known as the "green award." (05/01/07)

Plankton may help slow global warming - A group of businessmen in California's Silicon Valley today announced a test of whether the humble plankton may be able to help to slow down global warming. Scientists in Australia have also joined the race to send carbon to the bottom of the ocean. But they're also concerned about the possible hazards of stimulating plankton growth. (05/01/07)

Misunderstanding Global Warming: Alexander Cockburn versus Global Warming - By Michael Byron - I was astonished to read Alexander Cockburn's essay in the April 28th online edition of Counterpunch entitled "Is Global Warming a Sin?" Cockburn's thesis is that there is no scientific evidence whatsoever linking anthropogenic (human caused) CO2 emissions with worldwide increases in mean temperature "global warming." Comparing the proposed sale of carbon credits to alleviate future global warming to the medieval practice of the Catholic Church selling indulgences to cancel past sins, Cockburn asserts: "There is still zero empirical evidence that anthropogenic production of CO2 is making any measurable contribution to the world's present warming trend. The greenhouse fearmongers rely entirely on unverified, crudely oversimplified computer models to finger mankind's sinful contribution. Devoid of any sustaining scientific basis, carbon trafficking is powered by guilt, credulity, cynicism and greed, just like the old indulgences, though at least the latter produced beautiful monuments." (05/01/07)

Global warming a result of Earth's natural cycle - It seems to me that global warming is a government conspiracy for several plausible reasons. First of all, Earth, much like a living organism, has natural cycles that it must go through. According to a recent "Naked Science" documentary that aired on the National Geographic channel, the gravitational forces between Earth and the moon are slowly growing weaker. As our moon spins farther and farther away, Earth moves closer to the sun as it spins on its axis. In the distant future, these physical forces might become so weak that the moon will just spin completely outside of Earth's gravitational field. If that ever happens, it will spell catastrophe for our blue planet. (05/01/07)
