Global warming and cooling, according to our more down-to-earth
earth-sciences scientists, seem to occur in 1,500-year cycles. People's
lifespans - something like 35 years or so for century after century
before capitalism came along and, much to the chagrin of lefty hollow-head
Marxist anti-capitalists who still blindly deny it, extended the average
life expectancy out to 70 or 80 years or so - were just too short for
people grubbing in the ground for their grub in the form of grub worms
to take much notice of these great climate shifts.
Today it seems that we are living in one of those 1,500-year transition
periods. The last cold period, known to climatologists and historians
(but not to the mass population of the Earth who refuse to read history)
as the Little Ice Age, ended sometime around the year 1850. In Geologic
Years, that was just a New York second ago. (03/26/08)
Global
warming, fact or farce? - By: Sander Sassen - During the Easter
holidays I often find myself at the dinner table with friends and family,
discussing some of the current topics that are in the news. I always
take pleasure in convincing relatives that whatever you hear on the
news is often just one simplified version of someone else's truth, dumbed
down and packed into whatever time slot was available for that particular
news item. Global warming is a popular topic that is in the news often,
and one I am particularly fond of discussing.
I always find it amusing to see a global warming advocate foaming at
the mouth as they repeat the same story over and over again. Carbon
dioxide is the big killer, the one cause for our imminent demise as
a species and the planet as a whole. Never mind that there are greenhouse
gases other than carbon dioxide, gases that are more potent by several
magnitudes. Never mind that just about every living organism generates
carbon dioxide and has been doing so for billions of years. Never mind
that a forest fire, or a mild volcanic eruption, generates more carbon
dioxide than we do as a species in a year. Never mind that we only have
accurate worldwide temperature data for about the last 150 years at
best. Never mind that the Earth's average temperature has fluctuated
enormously throughout history with the first few billion years not even
a car, or a fossil fuel burning energy plant, in sight. (03/26/08)
Climate
expert says new 'global warming' legislation will cripple poor -
By Allie Martin - Dr. Roy Spencer, a scientist who has been studying
climate change for the past two decades, says defenders of supposed
"manmade global warming" are proposing policy changes and
legislation that will put heavy burdens on the poorest of the poor.
A principal research scientist at the University of Alabama in Huntsville,
Dr. Spencer directs a number of climate research projects. The expert
in climate change says much of the hysteria over global warming is not
based on scientific fact.
Spencer recently released a book titled Climate Confusion: How Global
Warming Hysteria Leads to Bad Science, Pandering Politicians and Misguided
Policies that Hurt the Poor. He believes advocates of manmade global
warming favor reforms and legislation that will cripple the poor. "When
you start punishing wealth, you're going to be reducing a generation
of wealth by punishing the use of energy, [from] which all human activity
is required. It's going to hurt the poor first," Spencer points
out. (03/26/08)
Call
to adapt to global warming - It would be cheaper and more effective
for the world to adapt to global warming rather than fight it, scientists
have said.
The scientists - including Mike Hulme, the founding director of the
Tyndall Centre for Climate Change Research at the University of East
Anglia - accept the scientific consensus on the causes and effects of
climate change, but differ on what to do about it.
Their view, which has caused them to be labelled "the new pariahs
of global warming", is that the world should work to reduce hunger,
storm damage and disease, rather than spending trillions of pounds trying
to stabilise carbon dioxide levels across the planet.
Roger Pielke Jr, an environmental policy expert at the University of
Colorado at Boulder, told the journal Natural Hazards Review: "Everything
has been put on the back of carbon dioxide, and carbon dioxide cannot
carry that weight."
He continued: "I've been accused of taking money from Exxon or
being a right-wing hack. I would characterise us as realists. Realists
on what is politically possible." Original

Watch: Global cooling hits Britain - Britain is enduring its most
miserable Easter for 25 years as Arctic winds sweep in, bringing snow,
hail and sleet. Snow began falling in Scotland yesterday and was expected
to move south over the next few days, with forecasters saying that a
white Easter looked increasingly likely across much of the country.
People wrapped up warmly to take a stroll along the seven-mile promenade
in Bournemouth, Dorset, as temperatures dropped to 7C. Last Easter thousands
of people sunbathed on the sandy beach as temperatures topped 20C. Holidaymaker
Andy Hemmings, 55, from St Albans, Herts, said: "The sun is out
but the winds are very chilly. We are warming ourselves up with a hot
chocolate." (03/25/08)

News: Global Warming Decimating Local Snowman Population - As the
emission of greenhouse gasses increases and global climate continues
to spiral upward, no demographic is taking it harder than the snowmen
and snowwomen of our community.
Snowmen across the country are left defenseless against a rising global
temperature as one by one, they slowly melt away and fade from existence.
A report put out by the Environmental Protection Agency shows that the
life expectancy of the average snowman continues to decrease.
" A snowman used to be able to last in the average American backyard
for the whole winter," one official said. "Now most of them
can't even make it past Christmas." (03/25/08)

New
Evidence Discredits Global Warming Dogma - Some call data on carbon
dioxide a bombshell, but so far global warming advocates have been bombproof.
On national radio in Australia, Jennifer Marohasy, a biologist and senior
fellow of Melbourne-based think tank the Institute of Public Affairs,
dropped a bombshell on those who support global warming: While carbon
dioxide levels have risen for the last 10 years, the Earth has cooled,
and the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change knows it. Marohasy
said,
The head of the ipcc (Intergovernmental Panel
on Climate Change) has actually acknowledged it [that the Earth has
cooled since 1998]. He talks about the apparent plateau in temperatures
so far this century. So he recognizes that in this century, over the
past eight years, temperatures have plateaued. … This is not what
you’d expect, as I said, because if carbon dioxide is driving temperature
then you’d expect that, given carbon dioxide levels have been continuing
to increase, temperatures should be going up. (03/25/08)

Global
warming still under dispute - To the editor: In regard to your editorial
for having an Earth Day with the notion of shutting down power for an
hour, the school board and your paper should be ashamed of themselves
for fear mongering.
There is no basis in fact that global warming is caused by man. As a
matter of fact, it has become a political issue espoused by the socialists
around the world.
There are many scientists with an opposing view on global warming and
as such should be given respect that it deserves. The Earth is not that
fragile and the only calamity we have to fear is volcanic eruptions,
asteroid onslaught and overpopulation. ~ Alex Fabricius, Oshawa

Scientific
Consensus on Climate Change? - By Klaus-Martin Schulte - FEAR of
anthropogenic “global warming” can adversely affect patients’
well-being. Accordingly, the state of the scientific consensus about
climate change was studied by a review of the 539 papers on “global
climate change” found on the Web of Science database from January
2004 to mid-February 2007, updating research by Oreskes (2004), who
had reported that between 1993 and 2003 none of 928 scientific papers
on “global climate change” had rejected the consensus that more
than half of the warming of the past 50 years was likely to have been
anthropogenic. In the present review, 31 papers (6% of the sample) explicitly
or implicitly reject the consensus. Though Oreskes said that 75% of
the papers in her sample endorsed the consensus, fewer than half now
endorse it. Only 6% do so explicitly. Only one paper refers to “catastrophic”
climate change, but without offering evidence. There appears to be little
evidence in the learned journals to justify the climate-change alarm
that now harms patients. (03/24/08)

Fuel Taxes Won't Help Anything - By JOHN HOOD - For thoughtful fiscal
conservatives, taxing motor fuels and vehicles to pay for the roads
they traverse is among the least-objectionable forms of taxation in
American government.
These taxes solved our transportation system's main pricing problem
— that most of our highways and streets have, as a practical matter,
had to offer unlimited access and thus couldn't be tolled — by essentially
tethering how much drivers pay to how much they drive.
On second thought, fiscal conservatives should still oppose any increase
in the federal gas tax. Here's why:
There's nothing magical about "federal" funding of local roads.
The money doesn't come flying in from some Neverland.
Instead, the system simply compels motorists to send gobs of money to
Washington every time they fill up their tanks. (03/24/08)
Quote Of The Day
“We should begin to see cooling coming on. I’m willing to make
a big financial bet on it. In 10 years, I expect the globe to be somewhat
cooler than it is now, because this ocean effect will dominate over
the human-induced CO2 effect and I believe the solar effect and the
land-use effect. I think this is likely bigger.” Dr. William Gray,
Colorado State University.
American
media ignores inconvenient science on global warming - Jerome J.
Schmitt - Americans apparently have to look to Australia for truthful
accounts of climate research conducted by our own space agency. Christopher
Pearson' March 22 article in THE AUSTRALIAN concerns an interview of
"Jennifer Marohasy, a biologist and senior fellow of Melbourne-based
think tank the Institute of Public Affairs." When asked about "Global
Warming", Marohasy stated:
"...actually, there has been cooling,
if you take 1998 as your point of reference. If you take 2002 as your
point of reference, then temperatures have plateaued. This is certainly
not what you'd expect if carbon dioxide is driving temperature because
carbon dioxide levels have been increasing but temperatures have actually
been coming down over the last 10 years.
"The head of the IPCC (Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change)
has actually acknowledged it." (03/24/08)
You
Must Get Roy Spencer's Book - Folks, you have to get a book. I mentioned
this last week. Our official climatologist here, Roy W. Spencer, has
written a book called Climate Confusion. I'm holding it right here in
my formerly nicotine-stained fingers. It's How Global Warming Hysteria
Leads to Bad Science, Pandering Politicians, and Misguided Policies
That Hurt the Poor. Dr. Spencer, formerly of NASA, is now at the University
of Alabama Huntsville. He's got a great little picture here on the cover.
It's a picture of either the sun rising or setting over the Antarctic
or Arctic, I'm not sure which, but it's as cold as it can be -- snow
cover, ice everywhere -- and the sign says "Danger: Global Warming
Ahead." But it's called Climate Confusion, and it's written by
a scientist for laypeople to be easily understood. (03/24/08)

change and urges everyone to take a strong stance in reducing their
own carbon emissions." (03/24/08)
Poland
Has A White Easter Week After A Warm Winter - Warsaw, Poland - 24
March, 2008 In spite of predictions of global warming, snow continues
to fall in Poland and is predicted to fall over the next few days.
Poland's weather this past winter stands out as an anomaly within an
anomaly. Rather than experiencing the normal winter winds from the North,
the winds came out of the West and carried warm, moist air from the
Atlantic. The result was a warm winter while much of the rest of the
world suffered under record cold temperatures.
Based on current data, global warming peaked about ten years ago. The
climate change trend has been flat over most of that period. ( Climate
facts to warm to) In the past year, however, global temperature dropped
significantly. But Poland's winter was warmer than usual. ( Is Poland's
Climate Change Counter To World Climate Change? ) And the answer as
to why lies in the wind. (03/24/08)

Biofuels Cause Global Warming! What Does that Tell Us? - By Ethan
G. - The word is now out: many biofuels, such as corn ethanol, actually
cause global warming according to two studies published in Science in
February. Why? Their production leads to clearing of wilderness to make
way for agricultural land. Yet the vegetation cleared away helps fight
global warming by sequestering carbon dioxide.
This report came as no surprise. Environmentalists such as Lester Brown
had long warned that biofuels, particularly from corn, would do more
harm than good (Earth Policy). In the United States corn is grown using
oil and oil products, so the total energy produced is relatively small.
Brazil extracts biofuel from sugar cane, which is far more efficient.
Unfortunately growing extra sugar cane spurs the clearing of the Amazonian
rain forest, an irreplaceable environmental treasure trove. (03/24/08)
Examination
of global warming models urged in light of Argo data - By Jim Brown
- A liberal media outlet has acknowledged that global warming may have
"taken a breather."
National Public Radio reports instead of warming up over the past four
or five years, oceans have actually been cooling slightly. According
to NPR, NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory has been studying the ocean
with a fleet of robotic instruments that can dive 3,000 feet down and
measure ocean temperature. Since the "Argo" system was fully
deployed in 2003, it has recorded no warming of the global oceans,
but rather "slight cooling."
Marc Morano with the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee says
the cooling trend runs contrary to the claims of people promoting manmade
global warming fears. But NPR -- which he describes as "an entrenched,
liberal, mainstream institution" -- would rather question NASA's
data, showing no ocean warming, instead of questioning the models that
are predicting catastrophic sea level rise due to supposed global warming,
he notes. (03/24/08)

he is a scientist who refuses to support wildly hyped global warming

Meteorological
Service: Don't blame global warming for water woes - By MEGAN JACOBS
- Let's not be so quick to blame global warming," said duty forecaster
Robert Olimsky of the Israel Meteorological Service. Though the IMS
is predicting the current heat wave to continue through Wednesday morning,
Olimsky stressed that this is just an extreme of what normally happens
this time of year, saying that trends over decades, rather than a few
days, are necessary to deduce that global warming is the cause of weather
changes.
Despite the cold winter and the unusual amount of snow in Jerusalem
this past winter, precipitation was "well below average" for
the season by roughly 30%, according to the IMS. This year was the fifth
winter to fall short of expected rainfall, for which the IMS does not
have conclusive explanations. (03/24/08)

Excellent!
More
trouble for the global warming movement - When I was in sixth grade,
I specifically remember reading in my science book about global cooling
and the coming Ice Age. Some things change and some others never do.
One thing that changes on a regular basis is science. When I started
medical school, I was told that more than half of what I was taught
during medical school would be proved incorrect by the end of my career.
This is not an anomaly for just medicine. You see it throughout all
fields of study when you are dealing with inexact sciences. The study
of weather is certainly not exempt from this. If you think the people
that study weather really have a firm grasp on what is going on, just
watch the weather report on the local news for a few weeks and you’ll
change your mind.
One thing that never changes is the desire by some to control the masses
through environmental nonsense. In our current day and age, one of the
ways this is manifested in the hysteria of man-made global warming.
We are told that we must cut down on greenhouse gas emissions by cutting
energy consumption presumptively by eliminating fossil fuel use. We
are told that we must embrace “green technology” and buy hybrid
cars to save the earth. This global warming hysteria continues to reach
magnitude proportions in our government and has already manifested itself
in a bill that permanently bans the incandescent light bulb a few years
from now (sorry Edison!). Congress is pondering passing a law mandating
fuel emissions to reach somewhere around 50 miles per gallon on all
cars manufactured in this country. If that isn’t the quickest way
to destroy the auto industry in this country, I don’t know what is.
Global warming, or global “climate change” as some like to call
it is actually far from a scientific consensus. Scientists that do not
prescribe to global warming are ridiculed, ostracized, and silenced.
The Weather Channel founder, John Coleman, called man-made global warming
the greatest scam in history. Proponents of this global warming hysteria
have a specific goal of politicizing the weather, because if you can
politicize the weather, you can control everyone. There’s a tornado–it
must be OUR fault for global warming. There’s a tsunami–global warming.
There are wildfires across California–global warming. Hurricane–global
warming... (03/23/08)
Perhaps
the climate change models are wrong - Lorne Gunter, National Post
- These 3,000 yellow sentinels --about the size and shape of a large
fence post -- free-float the world's oceans, season in and season out,
surfacing between 30 and 40 times a year, disgorging their findings,
then submerging again for another fact-finding voyage. [...]
So why are some scientists now beginning to question the buoys' findings?
Because in five years, the little blighters have failed to detect any
global warming. They are not reinforcing the scientific orthodoxy of
the day, namely that man is causing the planet to warm dangerously.
They are not proving the predetermined conclusions of their human masters.
Therefore they, and not their masters' hypotheses, must be wrong. (03/23/08)

Don't fall for global warming hysteria - Chico Enterprise-Record
- When it comes to choosing between Al Gore and Thomas Sowell, Robert

me, that signifies the difference between uninformed hysteria and careful
analysis.
More than 20,000 scientists and engineers have signed a notice that
we do not agree with the doom and gloom projections of computer programs.
In fact, we believe that an increase in carbon dioxide concentration
and a rise in temperature would be beneficial to plant life and the
environment as a whole.
The warm years of the Medieval Climate Optimum during 1100 AD was good
for farmers whereas the Little Ice Age during 1700 AD caused the starvation
of thousands of people because grain didn't ripen. Data show the sun
is responsible for the temperature swings on earth and to try to counter
it is not only futile, it would cost far more than California or the
country can afford. ~ Lionel Brooks, Chico (03/22/08)

Global
warming bill dealt blow - The Maryland Senate today severely weakened
a bill designed to reduce global warming pollution in the state.
An amendment approved by a vote of 27-20 would require the Maryland

it imposes any rules to cut greenhouse gases. Every time the MDE wanted
to limit the pollution through regulations, the agency would have to
win another vote by the General Assembly. That's a difficult, multi-step
process that could easily be derailed by industry lobbyists who oppose
the limits, supporters of the bill argue. Good!

Science: The Global Warming Bubble - By Steven Milloy - You didn’t

So after surviving the tech bubble and while trying to extricate the
economy from the housing bubble, why are we bent on heading into the

It's
the great global warming swindle - The EU has decided to cut emissions
of greenhouse gases by 20pc by 2020.
And clearly Mother Earth in anticipation of this great sacrifice has
decided to celebrate. For, according to NASA, global average temperatures
are much lower this year than last.
I wish I was convinced that this drastic reduction would make a blind
bit of difference.
I have a PhD in Chemical Engineering and Mensa-level IQ but cannot find
any clear evidence within reports by the Intergovernmental Panel on
Climate Change or other data that this is an appropriate action.
I recently complained about a lack of balance in an episode of 'Eco
Eye' on the subject of global warming and RTE responded that in a programme
about evolution they would not see the need to include a spokesman for
creationism. However, there is much more convincing evidence about evolution
than greenhouse gases causing global warming.
I have read a convincing paper that doubling the carbon dioxide level
in the atmosphere will increase atmospheric temperatures by just 0.01C.
Not enough to have any major effect and much less than the 0.6C warming
seen in Earth's temperatures over the last century.
And CO2 levels more than 10 times higher than they are now failed to
prevent a major ice age that wiped out most live on Earth at the end
of the Ordovician period 445 million years ago.
In July, tax on bigger cars will become €2,000 per year and no
doubt we can expect more of the same over the next few years with our
rulers exploiting the great global warming swindle to tax the bejesus
out of us. ~ ULICK STAFFORD PHD (03/18/08)
Global
Warming to Serve Politicians - Russian Academy of Sciences officially
claims main reasons of global warming are totally different from that
announced by UN Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC). (03/18/08)
Japaneese Absurdity
Japan
baseball looking to fight global warming with shorter games - TOKYO
-- Japanese baseball is going green.
As part of the fight against global warming, Japanese professional baseball
has come up with a plan to shorten its games and reduce carbon dioxide
emissions at stadiums.
Teams will aim to cut playing time by six per cent, or 12 minutes, from
the average of three hours and 18 minutes per game, Japan pro baseball
officials said Tuesday.
Under the plan, teams will be required to spend no more than two minutes
and 15 seconds when they change from fielding to batting.
Pitchers will be asked to throw within 15 seconds of receiving the ball
from the catcher when no runners are on base. (03/18/08)
Global
warming is just an excuse - By JR Dieckmann JR Dieckmann - Motivation
behind global warming activism has never been about concern for the
planet or life on Earth. Aside from using the evidence of a one degree
rise in global temperatures over the past 100 years to promote global
socialism (which was nothing more than recovery from a one degree drop
in temperature over the previous century), there is another angle that
should be considered, and if it's the real reason for high gas prices
today. (03/17/08)
NASA
Chief: Global Warming Treated Like a Religion - By: Philip V. Brennan
- The theory of human-caused global warming is being treated as religious
dogma, NASA's administrator said.
In an interview with SciGuy blogger Eric Berger, NASA Administrator
Michael Griffin who last May questioned whether addressing the alleged
global warming problem required all that much urgency, warned that dissent
from the global warming theory is almost treated as heresy. (03/17/08)
Global
Warming Politics - By Michael R. Fox Ph.D - "The greatest challenge
facing mankind is the challenge of distinguishing reality from fantasy,
truth from propaganda. Perceiving the truth has always been a challenge
to mankind, but in the information age (or as I think of it, the disinformation
age) it takes on a special urgency and importance." - Michael Crichton,
Science writer and author 'State of Fear'.
The current furor over human-caused anthropogenic (AGW) global warming
is a manifestation of environmental agendas that have continued for
forty years. As has happened in the past, this has been aggravated by
surprising low levels of science, mathematics, and energy literacy in
the U.S. A retired school teacher commented to me after a speech on
energy issues said, "Well I don't think we really have any electrical
supply problems. If I need more electricity I'll just install more outlets."
An uninformed public is very vulnerable to the threats of gloom and
doom some common over the past 40 years of environmentalism. (03/07/08)
There's
no global warming crisis - We had record low temperatures in 2007
being set all over the world. The global warming types hold their meeting
in Africa - wouldn't do to hold it where it's snowing.
Al Gore refuses to debate scientists who say there isn't global warming.
The British won't allow his film, An Inconvenient Truth, in schools
unless it is known as "political commentary."
The 1940s had a year that was the hottest on record; hotter than any
recorded recently. In the 1970s, they warn us about "global cooling."
What a sham. ~ George MacMillan (03/07/08)
